Just been formally notified that the Caribbean cruise in Nov has been cancelled. Am told that they are doing the same itinery in Jan 2021 on the spirit of discovery and would we like to transfer. Whilst the offer looks good I am unsure as to whether the ship will actually sail then and if it does will we be able to disembark in the ports or will we have to spend the whole time on the ship.  Does anyone have any more info?

Nobody - including the cruise lines - know whether or not the ships will sail in January, or  whether or not ports will be open, or even whether or not the FCO advice against cruising will have changed by then.

It also depends whether enough people are booked to make it possible for Saga to operate the cruise.

And how much of a personal risk you want to take on a cruise ship with 800 passengers and no idea what extra precautions will be in place and how it will affect your enjoyment.

Bear in mind that if you booked this cruise with Saga's included insurance and have the "cancel without penalty" letter that was sent out in March, the period for free cancellation is only up to the end of December.

Only you can decide whether or not you want to roll the money over or whether you would prefer to take it back into your own account - everybody has their own opinion, but nobody has a chrystal ball.

My personal opinion is that the January one is unlikely to go ahead - but that is just my opinion. Others may think differently.

We’re resigned to not cruising this year but have a British Isles cruise booked for late May on Oceania Sirena.

We’ve also got a North America cruise booked for September on Discovery.

Just hoping that there will be a vaccine or successful treatment by then, problem is that the virus attacks different people different ways, either according to their genome or their pre-existing conditions.

They have cancelled cruises on both ships now, and I believe they contact people in order of booking, not in order of cruise.

If so, it may be that there are people who are on cruises after yours, but who booked earlier than you, so they get contacted first.

If the Saga staff are still working from home, it slows things down - plus the options list takes time (especially if they are offering cruises on Discovery in January which will not be in the brochure) and people have questions to be answered;  the telephone staff are very patient, they don't rush people who have questions, so it is quite possible that a single call can take nearly an hour.
