I try to cruise once or twice a year and think it would be so much fun to camp at Port Canaveral and then park in the lot and hop on the ship. I hadn't before because I thought our trailer-travel was behind us -- I can no longer crawl over my husband in the one we own, and my husband ruled that our SUV was not up to towing the walk-around bed unit we rented in 2019. Also just the work of towing and parking made it not so much a vacation for him! Speed ahead five years, a 750-mile move, and many cancelled cruises -- and I am browsing camper vans (class B) and find the Jayco Swift 20TL (where the T stands for "twins" that can also be made into a king, and L stands for Lithium -- all electric). I have even found the specific one I want; it is in San Diego, but they will transfer it to their location in Albuquerque for <$4000. I just have to tell dr'spin! I have said for a long time now, that my favorite vacations were cruises, trailer-trips, and staying in one place (Beijing, Moscow, Barcelona, Copenhagen) to see it thoroughly. Now, I've seen places I couldn't have otherwise on escorted bus trips, but if I never have to live out of a suitcase for two weeks that would be OK! Does anyone reading this thread have a camper-van? NSnJW Posted July 10 #79 Share Posted July 10 Hi Crystalspin, When my wife was alive we camped in the VW Westfalia van for the 15 years we owned it. My wife taught me many tricks to maximise storage. Fold t-shirts and put them in gallon zip locks. Anything that can be wrinkled like socks and underwear go in vacuum bags. She had me make a board with a nonskid rubber bottom for our small Crock Pot. I made a bungee to hold the pot to the board. She cooked many meals while we traveled to our next campsite. With the strapped Crock Pot on the floor, it survived panic stops. Our first trailer (as a married couple) was a 13' fiberglass Trillium! So we know cramped! We only made one or two trips with both of us before upgrading to a 19' FunFinder. The walk-around bed one we rented was 24', no slides, and my mom came with us for a 2-week tour of New Mexico! So I'm pretty good with cramped! But it turns out the lithium system should not be stored over 95F, and at the higher temps under 95F, only a month between cycling. We don't have garage storage with 10' access, to try to control the temps. I have found a dealer only 3.5 hours away from us, who has the Entegra version of the Jayco camper van AND a couple of pretty short C-classes that might be easier to sell dr'spin on. Also (even though she is on oxygen), it might be possible to include my mom on some shorter trips, like one week or 10 days. Using the dinette bed that the camper van obviously does not have. The impetus behind my interest in a B or C class motorhome is that we keep having to cancel (longer) cruises due to family needs. And while our home is delightful AND keeps us busy with projects, my husband's main goal in retirement (last day of 2019) was to travel. Here in the southeast of Utah, we are plus-or-minus 6 hours away from MANY MANY places to visit and camp! Even Teton or Yellowstone is under 9 hours drive. My plan when we bought our Lance Truck Camper was to drive out to Utah and see how many of the National Parks we could visit. That was our plan for 2020. The pandemic scared us off. We have not looked at this trip again. We do a lot of 7-10 day trips to lakes within 2 hours of our home.
