Why, Why, Why again is 1492 being changed. We saw your presentation on Zoom minutes ago. Last January John Delany was on board the Surf when they introduced the new rendition of 1492. To say people were happy was a misnomer. It was terrible, is terrible. There is nothing like it in the original version when the sails go up, magical. There is nothing magical about this version. So what was the reasoning? Please change back? First cruise 1999 blown away by the sail away experience. Iconic WS.

The music WS plays at sail away times  is by Vangelis, used in The Cristopher Columbus movie called 1492. Gérard Depardieu played the lead role. Movie not great, music really great. Music is magical  when the sailing ships sail away from port and unfurl their sails. WS has had this tradition forever and we started cruising with and only them in 1999. They changed the music and put it to words, the words used in the movie were a form of Pig Latin with real Latin thrown in. The new rendition is simply not as magical, as  the original. Did not need to be changed, in my and other's opinion.

Agree 110%. The playing of 1492 Conquest of Paradise during the sail away has become the thing we most look forward to when leaving port on one of the sailing ships. For many of us it is an emotional experience of thankfulness to once again be on board one of these majestic ships and anticipation of what is yet to come. The music is magnificent and has become a tradition for those of us lucky enough to sail these ships often. We were onboard when the version by the Seattle Symphony was substituted and everyone was stunned. It was truly horrible and we all sent that message loud and clear to the officers to pass on to Delaney.  Even the crew thought it was horrible. Please don't mess with tradition! Especially now! We've all been through a tough year, looking forward to our next sailings whenever they will be, and need the comfort of familiar!

Hello. Yes, a former Windstar President had the great idea to find a vocalist to sing the lyrics to our theme song, Conquest of Paradise, in English and have the music performed by the Seattle Symphony. The original version will continue to be used on all ships, but we are mixing it up and bringing in a different rendition.

It’s tolerable on the sailed ships. In the cruisers where a few embarrassed looking crew show up to salute a WS flag is just embarrassing. We call it “flag away”.
