This was our first and only cruise to nowhere and it was sooooo much fun! I sure wish they still did these types of cruises.  In these crazy Covid times maybe there will be a consideration to bring them back??!!

Merry Christmas to all!

Hi @Chesneygirl,

Happy Throwback Thursday & Merry Christmas Eve!

I was already on this NCL thread and I saw your "Throwback Thurday" video post and it immediately brought a smile to my face. Love your videos; excellent videography, editing (professional quality) and even your choice of musical soundtrack!

Yeah, those "cruises to nowhere" may very well be brought back by the cruise lines as a way to get cruising slowly started back up again without having to deal with countries opening/not opening to cruise ships (or tourists of any kind, i.e. Canada).

I'll get to experience cruising out of the NYC metro area, but out of Bayonne (Cape Liberty), NJ on RCL's Anthem OTS. And, the cruise departs on Jan 20, 2022! It looked like in your video that at times you were wearing warmer clothing? Meaning your departure was in cooler weather (fall or winter)? Good thing about Anthem OTS, she is designed for cool/cold weather, as she has an indoor pool fwd of the main outdoor pool and also a totally glass enclosed "Solarium" (adults-only) fwd of the indoor pool. That's why RCL has homeported Anthem OTS's sister ship, the Quantum OTS in Seattle for the Alaska cruises. Also, another sister ship, Ovation OTS, comes over from Sydney, Australia in the summer to do Alaska cruises. Both ships, like the Anthem OTS, have the indoor pools & the glass enclosed Solariums (which has pools & hot tubs also). Makes sense since even in the summer months, it can get cool on those Alaska cruises.

I'm looking forward to my 11 day southern caribbean cruise on Anthem OTS out of NJ on Jan 20, 2022. I will be spending 4 nights pre-cruise (& 3 nights post-cruise) in the NYC metro area, so I can tour NYC (Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, 9-11 Memorial, Times Square, etc). Question is; is NYC safe these crazy days?

Unfortunately, Cruise to Nowhere are no more.

The reason for this is an immigration decision that stated that if the cruise did not call on a foreign country, then the crew would need a different type of visa. This was due to a casino cruise boat wanting to hire foreign workers under the same visa the cruise lines use, but the boat just going out, opening the casino, and returning. Immigration determined that this wasn't a valid use of those visas. Unfortunately, this also meant that cruises to nowhere could no longer occur.

My wife and I were on the same cruise. Was fun. I seem to remember doing the ropes course in a sweat shirt on the sea day.

They had the Gateway done up as the BUD LITE HOTEL.  The breakaway officers were not allowed to visit the Gateway other than deck 4. Budweiser controlled the ship. I was supposed to present a model to the hotel director. I left it with Sonya on the Breakaway. It was the first time the ships were together.

Here's a picture that?I downloaded.

We went on Breakawa's last cruise to nowhere in December 2015. It was in the 70s at sea. Was like a sea day in the Caribbean.
