sjde Posted January 18, 2021 #1 Share Posted January 18, 2021 Does anyone know why the December Viking Rhine cruises aren’t labeled as Christmas Markets cruises? I know from past experience that many / most of those ports do have Christmas markets.
tfred Posted January 19, 2021 #2 Share Posted January 19, 2021 Not all Christmas markets start early and the cruise itself may not be there are the right time for the market. There is also the politically correct thought since Viking calls it "Holiday" cruises, although it does mention Xmas in the description We were on a Crystal Danube Xmas cruise last year over Thanksgiving. We arrived a week early in Zurich (!!/15) and then traveled to Vienna for the start of the cruise. Zurich market wasn't open yet and the Vienna one was barely going. look at the ports and then check on Google for Xmas Market starts. It will be somewhere as it is a major tourist draw. They will all be going in December
sjde Posted January 19, 2021 Author #3 Share Posted January 19, 2021 It’s called just Rhine Getaway. We are looking at early Dec. I do see now on another main page they are referred to as Christmas Market and Holiday cruises. I know most of the markets don’t start till after Thanksgiving and a few not till December 1. Rare gnome12 Posted January 19, 2021 #4 Share Posted January 19, 2021 Under Holiday cruises, some, but not all, of the November and December Rhine Getaway cruises show up. But for 2021, there are none in December until the 14th. (They also have cruises in 2022 and 2023 that begin as early as November 1 when you are unlikely to find many markets open.) beesKate Posted January 21, 2021 #5 Share Posted January 21, 2021 I wonder if it has to do with the time of day you're docked? Most of the markets don't open until the afternoons.
