bluemarble Posted January 23, 2021 #1 Share Posted January 23, 2021 On the Cunard forum, we have discovered that the term "caronia 2" without the space is being turned into "*****" when it is mentioned within a post. Here is a demonstration. caronia caronia0 caronia1 ***** caronia3 caronia4 caronia2x xcaronia2 xcaronia2x .*****. There is a website called the "RMS Caronia Timeline" which includes that term within its URL. Here is the link to that website. https://www.*****.info/index.php Interestingly, while the term itself is being censored from the text of the URL, the link still works to take us to that website. Often when a term like this is being censored, it has been associated with a travel agent website. But that doesn't appear to be the case here, especially when the link itself isn't being censored. This is not a big deal, but is this possibly a glitch with the Cruise Critic forums that can be fixed to avoid confusion in the future?

Rare Host Kat Posted January 24, 2021 #3 Share Posted January 24, 2021 @bluemarble Howdy! I'm not Jenn, but please note our auto-censoring feature will show ***** instead of certain inappropriate words that are not "family friendly" or certain websites. Please see the following from the Guidelines for possible reasons the website has been censored: "... Question: Why don't you allow us to post about other cruise sites? My post contains *** and then you removed it! Answer: Actually, we do allow the legitimate linking to information at another cruise site, as long as that link isn't posted in an attempt to drive traffic to that site (in the sole discretion of Cruise Critic), or if the posting of such site is meant to cause disruption within the community. If a website's url or name is replaced by a series of *****, it may mean that particular website had spammed our community with advertisements for their site, or that member(s) may have posted in a way that we consider self-promotion or advertising..." And also, please note the following in the Guidelines we all agree to follow when registering for our free Cruise Critic memberships: "... Discussion of the management of this community is not allowed on the forums..." "... However, we would be happy to address any concerns you have via email. Please write to the Community Manager at: community@cruisecritic.com..." "... The Community Manager has overall control of everything that happens within the Community. The Community Manager oversees how the board is styled, what forums to create and how to organize them, is responsible for our Rules of Participation, what information to require from members and who to appoint as Community Hosts. You may contact the Community Manager at: community@cruisecritic.com..." "... If you have any questions or comments regarding our posting guidelines or any content found on our message boards please be sure and let me know. I'll be happy to discuss them with you.LauraSSenior Manager, Communitycommunity@cruisecritic.com..." Please feel free to send your email with any questions, comments or feedback concerning board moderation to LauraS from your Cruise Critic email address of record. Be sure to mention your Cruise Critic user name. And since this question/comment/feedback should not have been posted on the board but instead sent as an email to the Community Manager per the Guidelines, this thread is closed. I sincerely hope this will be helpful. Happy sails, Host Kat
