Hi Everone. My wife and I are re-planning our month in Europe (thanks COVID!!) for Julyl of 2022. We would really like to spend a week or so cruising from Venice to Rome. Any ideas on specific cruises for a pair of first time cruisers?

Go to this website:  https://www.cruisetimetables.com/fromveniceitaly-jul2022.html

Check out the cruises that start and end where you want to be, and pay close attention to their itineraries and times in port.  Make your decision from there.  Note that there will be a wide variation in price...  EM

One consideration: there are far more, and less expensive, flights to/from Rome than Venice, so you should stick to the Venice-Rome itinerary.  After flying to Rome and spending some time there the train to Venice is easy and convenient, and allow yourself at least a day or so in Venice before boarding.

You can find many variations of this sort of itinerary.  Not knowing your ages or what you are looking for adds some complexity to trying to help.

As for air fares, it is too far out to know what your options might be, but I agree that there are more flights and therefore more competition into Rome.  We had good luck finding fares through Air Canada when we took that trip, but I had to keep checking.  We were are to fly to Rome and then back from Venice.

There are lots of different cruise lines, some cater to a younger set, some to an older set.  Some with more luxury, some with less.  Regardless of where you fall in these options, look at the ports you will be visiting. Bear in mind that some of these cruises might go to Monaco or Nice, and some may stop at Dubrovnik or Corfu on the way around.

if you could tell us more about what you might like, people on CC might be able to tell you more.

Yiu probably want a couple or more days days in Rome and a couple of days in Venice.

You have a few options.  If you want to spend the big bucks on an ultra-luxury cruise the Regent Seven Seas Explorer does a 10 day leaving Venice on Jul 3, 2022.   Another option is a July 16, 12 day cruise on HAL's Westerdam.   The Viking Sky (Viking Line) does a 7 day itinerary leaving Venice on July 16.  And another very luxury line, Silverseas, has a 10 day cruise on July 25 on their lovely Silver Dawn.

Hope this gives you some ideas.   If price is a major factor you will probably find the lowest cost options on the Westerdam.

Hank
