Amtrak and San Diego Hotel

Hello, we will be cruising for the first time out of San Diego in March 2022 and arriving by Amtrak. Trying HAL for the first time—really enjoy sailing from SF as it is our home port but if it is easy, we’re open to leaving from SD since both of our kids live in SoCal.   
 

We will be in Irvine visiting our kids so rather than driving and leaving our car, we’d like to take the Pacific Surfliner to San Diego.  I’ve booked the Springhill Suites for one night because it looks pretty close to both the train station and the cruise terminal.  Is there another hotel that is more convenient for a train arrival?  How easy is it to cross the tracks to the hotel?  We’d like to be able just to walk to the hotel and then walk to the cruise terminal.

Its' really easy.     As long as you can walk with your luggage you should be able to find a hotel within walking distance of the train and the ship.   

 

Springhill Suites is fine unless you are looking for a 5 star sleepover.

The same half a dozen hotels that are commonly described here as close to the pier, are also as close to the train station. We like the Embassy Suites.

Nope (well maybe the Residence Inn in the same building. it is 50 feet closer to the cruise terminal)
