Cuban Coffee in Havana Bar

Once I ordered a cuban coffee (Havana Bar on Sunshine) and the guy asked me "Sugar or no sugar?"

I went "Huh? Sugar, please (very confused voice)" and he handed me the sugar packets.

THAT'S NOT CUBAN COFFEE!!

That's espresso with sugar, nothing more.

There is technique in making cuban coffee. Sugar goes in the tin first and then the hot coffee hits the sugar and caramelizes it, making it sweeter and thicker.

Don't be sold short!

(I'm from South Florida)

That's hilarious and sad, lol. We have a moka pot to make Cuban coffee (best <$10 you'll ever spend), and whip a teaspoon of the brewed coffee into the sugar first to make that classic foamy layer on top when you pour the rest of the coffee in. Soooo good. Unfortunately, both being diabetic, my husband and I can't make it too often, and Splenda just won't froth up the same... but every once in a while it's totally worth the splurge. 😊
