molly361 Posted February 18, 2006 #1 Share Posted February 18, 2006 I have searced this site and found answers to the definition of upsell but does anyone know if any other lines other than NCL do this? I am assuming from most of the definitions that you would get some sort of discounted rate for the upsell or else it would just be considered upgrading- I called Carnival regarding an upcoming cruise booked and the agent I spoke to never heard of the term - all she knew of was upgrading based on current rates Thanks
Dream Weaver Posted February 18, 2006 #2 Share Posted February 18, 2006 Hi Molly, I have never received a call from any cruise line other than Norwegian for an "upsell" to my clients. Princess does an automatic upgrade if the client agrees to it at the time of booking.

Cotton Posted February 18, 2006 #4 Share Posted February 18, 2006 I'm a Carnival cruiser. I've never heard the word "upsell" used.
cherylandtk Posted February 18, 2006 #5 Share Posted February 18, 2006 Dream weaver is correct in the actual meaning of the term. But it is also used to mean 'Upgrade for a value price at the dock'. RCI does that, Carnival and Princess do not. Can't speak for the other lines.
Cotton Posted February 18, 2006 #6 Share Posted February 18, 2006 ;) I know what the term 'upsell' means. I said I haven't heard it from anyone at Carnival.
ORANGEinINDY Posted February 18, 2006 #7 Share Posted February 18, 2006 Upsell is really a sales term, simply meaning to sell a more expensive item then a customer requested...sell up. Is that like "Bait and Switch" ?
Dockman123 Posted February 19, 2006 #8 Share Posted February 19, 2006 Is that like "Bait and Switch" ? lol! Similar but not exactly. Bait and Switch you offer something cheap but when they go to buy it you dont have it but do have something more expensive. With upsell you have the product but talk them into something more expensive.
