The big Four-Oh  Only a quarter of 2021 left to shoot and share!

Rules: See above

That's it. This isn't a contest.

All photos taken this week are welcome (not just cruising).

Prizes will not be awarded. Discovering the joy of photography is the prize.

The idea is to get folks out using their cameras for more than vacations and toddler birthdays.

Post one. Post many. Up to you.

Have fun with your camera and share your fun with others!

Continuing along with my vacation set from week 39's thread...my final vacation day was spent at Disney's Animal Kingdom park...so it's not my wetlands, but still involves photos of animals!

CC isn't letting me "like" the previous photos, alas.

Here's a few from my visit to the Botanic Gardens yesterday including some leaves turning color already and a Blue Heron.

Early October is harvest time for our Mexicali Avocado tree. This year, we have a bountiful harvest due to the labor of hard working bees doing pollination duty and some active prevention of depredations by the @#*!& squirrels. We planted the Mexicali version because Kim's aunt had one and we always preferred the texture and flavor over the more common Haas avocados. As with our all-of-a-sudden tomato avalanche in early summer, we are now faced with scouring the internet for recipes that include avocado and aren’t guacamole. Fortunately, the wonderful fruit (technically a berry with a large seed) is a favorite salad ingredient as well as a burger or omelet garnish. Also, neither of us is above just scooping one out with a spoon for a Guactober snack.

I started out week 40 with my last day at Disney World...by the weekend, it was back to the local wetlands to see nature again:

A prairie warbler showing off his pretty stripe job:

A young raccoon in a tree directly above me, eating berries and happily ignoring me:

original.jpg

Very close up with a little blue heron (so close, I had to back up to get within my lens' minimum focus distance):

While we're on closeups...here's a double-crested cormorant from about the same 7 foot distance:

The beautiful American bittern lurking through the wetlands:

American alligator enjoying a dry rest up on the levee:

Then wrapping up the day as usual - jumping in my pool to cool off from the swamp heat - and photographing the backyard birds that come by.  This time, it was a chunky, fluffy female cardinal who sat and posed for me:
