I think ppl re getting confused with travel insurance vs medical insurance.. shouldn't our existing medical insurance cover the expenses there in case of medical emergencies. Travel insurance is for delays/cancelations or get stranded due to quarantine in Us or otherwise. etc.

Existing medical insurance doesn't always cover out of network, let alone foreign travel.  Medicare doesn't cover outside the US for example, unless you have a supplemental policy.

A comprehensive travel policy covers cancellation, trip delay, trip interruption and various other travel related hazards.

It also covers expenses for medical treatment and/or evacuation as necessary. Your standard insurance may or may not cover you when you travel. Check with your carrier to see how it works. It may pay out of network rates, which can leave you with significant out-of-pocket costs. Travel insurance will pay the excess after your regular insurance pays, or it will become the primary policy if yours does not cover you for foreign travel.

In any event, your regular insurance will not fly you home if you find yourself in a foreign hospital needing a higher level of care. As you imagine, that can be costly.

Just know that neither will pay up front though some travel policies will advance funds if needed to get you admitted to a hospital. Be prepared to pay and seek reimbursement once you return home and file a claim.

OK, but have you saved enough to cover a medical emergency in St. Maarten as NCL escorts you off the ship minutes before sailing?  It happened to an unlucky passenger last week on the Gem.

Yes, insurance is a personal choice (and I support that choice), but ship happens.

If I was worried about medical costs, I would just buy NCL's essentials which is really cheap.  I was really referring to trip cancellation costs.

Understood and points to the fact that everyone's situation is unique.  For me, I want to insure against the potential for a medical issue.
