Or maybe because of all the news last year more people got flu shots, maybe because not as many people were in the office, maybe because the flu shots were a good match, maybe because after being tested for covid people didn't then get tested for the flu.  So many reasons could be the explanation.

Yes, but the things that help prevent the spread of COVID also help to prevent the spread of the flu (and the common cold and noro virus, etc.). This is from the CDC website regarding flu vaccines (emphasis mine):

• Coverage for all jurisdictions this season as of December 4, 2021 is similar or lower than at the same time last season (December 5, 2020)

I think I will just continue to do what has worked for me for the past 11 years (it has been at least that long since I have had any kind of respiratory illness).  I get a flu shot and wash my hands when needed.
