Recent Experience Disembarking in Galveston

Does anyone have recent experience getting off the ship, self-assist, in Galveston?  Flight was changed and I am worried that it is too early now.

We were on Indy in October and in the last 2 groups and we were off by 9:30. Was really a light PAX load, but the terminal was nearly empty by the time we picked up our bags.

With Royals new procedures and facial recognition , it is outstanding.

Depends on if you have priority debark. We are platinum and used self-assist last month off the Breeze. We were in the car at 8:04am and home by 9am.

 The facial recognition is really cool. No US Customs forms, no stopping.

We ate wonderful breakfast in MDR on Liberty  , and casually walked off ship ! From MDR to curb was 10 or so minutes.

We disembarked Liberty just a few days ago. Facial recognition is super fast, and the only time we had to stop was to wait for the elevator on the ship! I think you need a US passport to use the facial recognition, though.

No wait when walking down exit ramp . Use elevator only as needed .

Disembarkation at the port of Galveston has been so great on both of our cruises since the re-start.  The facial recognition is amazing.  You don’t even need to get out your passport to walk through customs.  Also, we now park right across the street in the parking garage, and one of us goes to get the car while the other waits with the luggage to drive up to pick up. On a shorter cruise with less luggage we just did self-assist and walked across the street with our 1 bag directly to the car.  
 

The wait happens on the ship as they go through the organized disembarkation plans…self-assist first (seems the majority do this), and then those with checked luggage.  But the actual checking out is so very quick now….just a scan of your sign&sail card, and out you go.  You barely break stride!

@CarolSWdid you park in the Port of Galveston garage?  Did you make a reservation or is it first come, first served?

I think you should always make a reservation.  There is no guarantee there will be a space unless you do.  First come/first served is true regarding the LOCATION of your space.  We were early (before 10 am) this time and got a spot on the ground level.  Last time we used it in October we were later (after 1 pm) and we were on the top floor.
