sad549s Posted December 23, 2021 #1 Share Posted December 23, 2021 We are on the Carnival Sunshine this week with a new piano player “Scott Harris”. While he can play the piano and sing he does not offer “late night” / “adult” piano entertainment as they have on every other Carnival cruise that we have been on. He even changes the words on the usual piano songs so that they are “G” rated. The Fun Times states that the piano show is for 18+ However elementary children are right at home. We were in the piano bar well past 12am and someone finally asked him about his adult show and were told matter of factly that HE does not have an adult show at ANYTIME or ANYDAY of the week. THIS GUY BELONGS ON DISNEY NOT CARNIVAL!!!!!!!

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
sad549s Posted December 23, 2021 Author #3 Share Posted December 23, 2021 Our waitstaff in the MDR staff was horrible the first 2 nights (slow service, bringing out the adults dinner and desert before the kids even after asking for them to be served first so that they could go to camp ocean) but after a conversation with the matri D things have improved greatly. Camp Ocean is not offering any services after 10pm (free or fee). The shape of the ship is average at BEST. We were on the phone with Carnival for over 7 hours the week before the ship sailed to get the rooms that we needed but then when we boarded we discovered that they had moved one of the rooms that we booked due to “covid” protocols then it took over 3 hours once onboard at guest services to get 2 balcony rooms next door to each other……and the ship is only sailing at 42% capacity! Not sure why it took them so long to figure that one out! They just kept telling us to “come back later”. Finally at 11pm on the day of embarkation we had rooms. Another not so great thing was that on embarkation day, the toilets to about 1/2 the ship were not working. It took them about 2 hours to get that resolved. It has been nice sailing at reduced capacity….there are no lines for anything.
Rare ninjacat123 Posted December 23, 2021 #4 Share Posted December 23, 2021 Sounds like "the bugs are being shook out" so to speak. Sorry that there were issues and I hope things go smoothly for the rest of your cruise. Have you walked past Alchemy? Our cruises in Sept and Oct, Alchemy was packed all the time. 42% sounds like a ghost ship! We were on Magic in Sept at about 60% and it was easy access for everything. Except Alchemy. 🙂 Have you been to Serenity? Busy? Thanks again!!
sad549s Posted December 23, 2021 Author #5 Share Posted December 23, 2021 Alchemy only has 2 bartenders so there is typically a 2-3 person wait but not too bad. The serenity is nice and large so there are plenty of loungers to be had at ALL times. No issues with chair hogs on this sailing.
kaybeebee Posted December 23, 2021 #6 Share Posted December 23, 2021 Awww, this is disappointing to hear. We are getting on New Years Eve and always look forward to the piano bar. We had Eden on our Horizon cruise back in September, and spent many hours there. How is the other entertainment?
Rare ninjacat123 Posted December 25, 2021 #7 Share Posted December 25, 2021 Not a deal breaker, but just curious who is the Cruise Director on Sunshine? And Merry Christmas!!
sad549s Posted December 29, 2021 Author #8 Share Posted December 29, 2021 1 of the 4 comedians was good the other 3 were below average. The comedian on the main stage was horrible. You can definitely tell they just hired whoever they could find for this ship. The cruise director was Donkey ….the voice from above.

cleifheit2019 Posted December 31, 2021 #10 Share Posted December 31, 2021 We love a piano bar and we actually skipped it our entire cruise on the Magic back in October. For the few minutes we were there, was not impressed at all! We did love the bands that played outside the Alchemy Bar. That was a perfect spot for us, good music and the best drinks. We didn't attend but I saw their bios listed on the Lido big screen promos. Was able to look up Quezada's name because it said he played a DEA agent on Breaking Bad.

I was on Carnival Destiny in 2006 for our first Carnival cruise, a Southern Caribbean out of San Juan. Our first time back. I liked the decor, seemed softer and muted compared to some of the early designs. I always love the crew on just about every ship. Steward, Jamal, and waitstaff, Richard, Mila and Jenny in the Sunset MDR, were all great. Seems crew was pressed into service from Horizon and will be staying on Sunshine. Guess that is how cruise director Chris Williams/Donkey, got there, too. Ship is 25, with Destiny/1996 and 8 years since Sunshine debuted. I thought they were doing good keeping up appearances. Saw some repairs being done during the cruise. Inside door frame was rusted pretty bad at bottom 2-3 inches nearest the shower. I don't know the exact ratio of crew/guests but it seemed there are always plenty of crew working hard for us. Our junior server was still working until 2:00am on Lido after MDR service. Previous posts about food lacking in the wee hours on Mardi Gras, we did have a nightly buffet station in the Lido Marketplace offering an alternative to the pizza.
