What can CruiseNext certs be Used For?

Tried doing a search for the answer to this question, both on CC and on NCL, but to no avail.  

 

We understand the purpose of the Cruisnext certs (to be used as payment when making a new reservation), but can they be used for any other purpose?  

For example, could they be applied to an existing booking as OBC?  

OR, as payment to pre-purchase anything for an existing cruise?

Also, can they be refunded?

We appreciate any replies, from those of you in the know.  Thank you.

What can the Peace of Mind FCC be used for?

The original, full value FCC can be applied and used for the following:

• Voyage Fare
• NCFs
• Government Fees and Taxes
• Pre-paid service charges
• Beverage or dining gratuities (if part of the Free at Sea promotion selection)
• Flexible air purchased through Norwegian Cruise Line
• Hotel purchased through Norwegian Cruise Line
• Cruise tours purchased through Norwegian Cruise Line
• Pre-booked and pre-paid shore excursions
• Transfers
• Essentials, Booksafe Standard or Platinum Travel Protection insurance

As far as I know they can technically be only be used for cruise fare.  I was stunned, however, when they let me use one for the taxes/grats/admin fee on a Casinos At Sea “free” cruise.  Don’t know if you’re a gambler, but just thought I’d let you know.

Occasionally they will do a double up promo that allows you t use two certificates toward your cruise fare.   That is always available to haven passengers, and I think suite passengers.   But ordinarily one per cabin.

 

a while back there was a glorious glitch that allowed you to go into your account and select a CN cert and apply it to an existing booking as payment.  I did it several times til they fixed it.  I do try again every once in a while, but no luck.
