6rugrats Posted May 26, 2022 #26 Share Posted May 26, 2022 No, no, no. I work for an airline and cannot tell you how many delays/cancellations/overbookings there have been in the last few weeks and it's just going to get worse as summer gets here. You can't be rebooked if there are no available seats. Fly in the day before.

For those who have not been flying in the last few months, they may not understand that what is happening with the airlines today is something new and different. All the US airlines now have crew shortages (primarily pilots) and this often leads to flights being cancelled or delayed (hours) because there is no available crew of the crews are out of place (and also have trouble moving due to cancelled flights). And since we now have a new surge of travelers there are often situations where no seats are available on alternative flights. This leads to travelers being stranded for several days which is not a good thing if you are flying to a cruise. Personally, this has happened to me twice in the last 2 months...once with AA (when we were stranded at DFW for 2 days) and more recently with United when they cancelled two of our flights while we were actually en route. In the case of United we would have been stranded at Newark for about 26 hours but we simply rented a car (at our own expense and made the 3 hours drive to our destination.
