machotspur Posted March 27, 2022 #26 Share Posted March 27, 2022 Hello Chris Mrs Machotspur and I are embarking Silver Dawn next Friday 1st April and we are reassured and excited by your excellent photos of the Silver Suite (we are on Deck 10 !). Ever the forward planners we have been unable to source a S.A.L.T. Dinner menu online. Whilst recognising that the menu changes regularly we would love to see a sample menu posted here. Maybe you could oblige Chris ? Thank you so much, in anticipation of a kind positive response 😉

The biggest changes here are that it's complimentary for all guests during certain hours. Also as part of the Otium concept, you can have snacks and cocktails as you relax and go between the sauna and steam room. Thanks very much for this information and for the spa menu with its mind-blowing prices. The spa had for me been a favorite feature of a SS cruise. What with the increase in base cruise prices (with inclusions such as tours in which I am uninterested), the spa on Dawn is apparently being priced out of my reach. I would love to know what is meant by the statement that the relaxation area is "complimentary for all guests during certain hours." What hours? 3 AM to 6 AM? 🙂 The Thermal Suite had an upcharge and a limited number of "memberships" sold. This made sense to control demand, and the Suite was generally quiet and an upcharge-paying "member" could generally a chair, etc. Will people have to arrive at Otium the moment it is open for general/complimentary use and put old magazines and sunscreen on loungers to claim them?

Not O-tee-um, which is how I was saying it. Pronouncing it "odium" doesn't do the brand much good.

I'm not sure about crowd control. The hours on this sailing were between 8 am and 12:30 pm and 2 pm and 7:30 pm. I'm sure they will adjust as the line sees what the demand is. Susan Bonner from One Spa World is here and just had a session. She said that before the pandemic, 75 minute treatments were the most popular but they have seen a definite rise since in 100 minute treatments. She said that both her company and Silversea were "very data driven" so time and pricing could vary, depending on what guests want.

My class today in Lisbon was called "In Cod We Trust: Beloved Bacalhau (Salted Cod), the Building Block of Portuguese Cuisine." The class ran a bit less than the hour. Everyone has their own individual cutting board, knife, bowls and induction cooktop. Our ingredients were mostly already chopped for us and ready to go. We made two dishes, both using cod - a salad with chickpeas and a scrambled egg and potato dish. The SALT Lab hostess walked us through the steps and also gave us fun facts on cooking and cod in Portugal. You stand the whole time, but one person in our group needed a chair and he was given one. Dietary restrictions can be accommodated with advance notice. The classes are free but you need a reservation as there are limited spots. You do not get to keep the apron. It was fun and the dishes were tasty. A few photos:
netpj Posted March 28, 2022 #33 Share Posted March 28, 2022 Chris, we are following along closely as we're thinking of booking her next winter. Is there any chance you could take some photos of a regular Veranda suite? We understand it may not be possible but if you can, wonderful. Thanks. claudiaYVR Posted March 28, 2022 #35 Share Posted March 28, 2022 Chris, would it be possible for you to take a few close up pictures of the upper body weight machines in the gym, in particular so we can see the maximum weight that can be lifted (bottom of the weight stack)? We are seriously considering our first Silversea cruise on either the Moon or the Dawn and my husband is a professional weight lifter who needs to know exactly what he has to work with on board. Many thanks

Members Rare Cruise Critic Chris Posted March 29, 2022 Author Members #37 Share Posted March 29, 2022 Hi all! So I did the Otium in-suite bath experience earlier this afternoon. i enjoyed it more than I thought I would. (I am not a bath person). I think it was the neck pillow that made it -- and maybe the champagne! A few photos:

I am sailing next month so I’m thinking about this

Rare Host Jazzbeau Posted March 29, 2022 #40 Share Posted March 29, 2022 The problem is that where I really need help with a bath is getting out – and I am NOT going to ask the Butler to help with that! 5

Members Rare Cruise Critic Chris Posted March 30, 2022 Author Members #43 Share Posted March 30, 2022 Salt Kitchen menu and meal from last night. The menu changes every day. Quite ambitious! Our menu is Spanish and Portuguese and everything was quite delicious. I will say that our dining companion - a lovely travel agent from Delaware we met onboard - has a nut allergy and somehow experienced some cross-contamination. We have eaten with her several evenings and the waiters always know her dietary restrictions and confirm. The issue must have happened back in the kitchen. The ship's medics helped her out. I wonder if the changing menu at SALT Kitchen makes it more difficult. 1

Members Rare Cruise Critic Chris Posted March 30, 2022 Author Members #45 Share Posted March 30, 2022 Something new in the shops. They now have a certain number of new and vintage designer handbags from Louis Vuitton, Hermes and Chanel. There is even a Birkin! (yours for $19,500). Not for everyone, of course. But I expect these bags will find an audience. Concept will also be rolled out to Moon. Also some cute Hermes shoes.

Here are a few photos of her suite. It's not a "true" suite with two rooms but there are thick curtains you can pull to separate the bedroom from the living area. 3
