I just dug a little deeper - those three weekend (Liberty/May) sailings, once you go to book, all show "nothing available" when you try to pick a cabin. Guess they threw a few more cabins out there and they were snapped up.

Tom

There were some really good deals through the email link they sent on the "up to 50% off link". I'm sure a lot of folks jumped on it. Hope you find something that works.

**Actually, I just checked and there is plenty for Liberty in May, nearly all of May is available for $100 for two in a balcony. Rate code is PFN. See if that works for you, though it may be targeted possibly.

***Actually $100 ea and only forward available on some.

It's a moving target 🙂

Were masks required for the remainder of the Spirit's cruise to Seattle?

I wonder if they'll be required on the next sailing as well (I believe it's tomorrow), or if the requirement will be lifted.

Just heard from someone on the Alaska leg.  Masks were not required.

Yes, from the next morning onward.  And they were really strict about it--going up to people and telling them, announcing it repeatedly in the casino and shows etc.

I heard at the airport that about 400 people were put into isolation by the end of the cruise.  They were taken by buses to local hotels first thing after we docked.

Nothing is foolproof, but the ship tried. And you will always have people that think the rules don't apply to them and try to get away with slipping their masks down when no one is looking.

But most people readily obeyed and kept them on.  In the buffet areas, if they saw you without one, they handed you a mask! So not sure what else they could have done to contain the outbreak.  That's a risk we all took when we boarded the ship.

My guess is that with everyone vaccinated, having two precruise negative tests and the outbreak happening now the virus likely came on board in Cartagena. Jamaica could be possible, but the time before symptoms and allowing time for spread makes me bet on Cartagena.

I think it was from Jamaica if picked up in port, but it could have just been from onboard infections.  Someone said when they came back from Cartegena, that the ship was being cleaned from floor to ceiling all over the place..So the first cases were before Cartegena.  Then they just kept multiplying.

Not much you can do when cases start growing other than what the ship did--isolation, cleaning and changing the mask requirement mid-cruise.

Some folks were pretty freaked out at the airport as we all starting chiming in with what we were hearing. And it wasn't hearsay, one of the people we were in line with had a relative that was isolated  and told her about the buses and hotels they were shuttled to from the pier. But so far, no Covid in our house....travel sites are recommending people take a test 3-5 days after they get back home....

We will still continue to cruise. I had Covid in January, but luckily it wasn't life threatening. I am a germ freak, so I will continue to wear a mask on the airplane and crowded areas, and I carry Germ-X everywhere I go!  But I still got it, and my husband didn't...go figure.

Off the Vista from a back2back ending on May 7.

Masks not required. Very, very few people wore them, Hand washing/sanitizing available, but not monitored or enforced despite very cool hand washing machines at Lido restaurant entrance. We very rarely saw anybody washing or sanitizing. People were then self-serving with gusto at the buffet.

Frankly it was gross. We are vaccinated and boosted and nevertheless tested positive on debarkation day, along with a ton of others reporting the same experience on social media.

We’re home self-isolating now.

Carnival was our third cruise line (after NCL and RCCL) since Dec 2021, post pandemic. It needs to do better.

I hope you're both doing OK!

Yes, with most people going without masks, the more easily transmissible variants, and  longer sailings - the more chance one has of coming up ( + ).

I'd imagine that the actual number of people infected would be much higher than one might anticipate... perhaps ignorance is bliss, I don't know. If cruise lines tested everyone after longer (10+ days) onboard, and published the numbers - it might tank their stocks even more!
