Does anyone know whether a US citizen needs an Air Transit Visa to change planes in Brussels, Belgium? Going on NCL Greek Island cruise Jun 19. We change planes in Brussels to continue to Venice, Italy. I did search online but did not find a clear answer. I called Brussels Airlines and the agent said that she thinks I do but to check with Belgium consulate.

No visa is required for entry or transit through Belgium to any other Schengen Area country from the U.S. (With a U.S. Passport)  Info directly from the U.S. State Department:

Brussels is you entry into the Schengen area - as a US citizen you only need your passport -  passport control will be in Brussels - no further passport control for Venice..

Make sure your luggage is checked through to the final destination.

As milolii is saying, there will be a ETIAS visa program introduced for entry into Schengen Area - but not for this year.
Enjoy your cruise - hope you’ll also have time to explorer Venice.
