What does the 'free' internet include?

Hi everyone - we are looking forward to a big family cruise on Nieuw Amsterdam in late August! Thanks to everyone for all the great info sharing. Have been reading through all the helpful tips in the group and I'm sure I'll have lots of questions in the next couple months .

 

My first question is about the extent of 'free' internet on board. In the Navigator app, under 'Connect' - there is a sub-option called 'Websites' which says that you can "Get free access to select Holland America Line partner websites while on board."

 

What does that mean, exactly? For example, we are NY Times subscribers already, does that mean we can access the NYT website natively without paying for internet access? I ask because I have a long crossword puzzle streak ongoing and would love to be able to keep it running while on our cruise .

The websites you can access without paying for internet access will only be Holland America sites to make it easier for you to spend money while on board.  To do crossword puzzles you'll have to pay.

IIRC, when I accessed the free NYT site I was able to get to the daily crossword, as well as the articles we got in the daily newspaper. 
Has that changed now that the NYT doesn't sponsor the internet service anymore? 
I sure would miss the daily crossword puzzle.

Hmm - that's kind of what I was wondering too. I tried asking ship services and they had no idea.

Find a posting from someone on a ship providing live updates.  They will be able to get your answer.
