muffin Posted June 28, 2022 #1 Share Posted June 28, 2022 Arrive day before. Assume Uber to hotel, then to port. Any recommendations for clean, safe hotel within reasonable distance os ship. Suggestions for transport from ship back to airport? Never been to SF!
oakridger Posted June 28, 2022 #2 Share Posted June 28, 2022 Uber or taxi. My friend who lives right in the city told me that although Uber used to be the best price, it's now regular taxis that are less! Just check and compare before you decide. I don't recommend taking the BART train to the airport with a bunch of luggage. You would need to get a ride to the BART station anyway from the ship. Of course, Princess probably has bus transfers to the airport also. Depending on number of people in your party, a taxi might be a better deal if you have two or three people. Sorry, I don't have a current port hotel recommendation. So many have changed in the last couple of years. ~Nancy
ATSEAMYLIFE Posted June 28, 2022 #3 Share Posted June 28, 2022 SF is a pretty compact city, although traffic can suck at times. If getting in late the day prior I would just stay out by the airport and find a ride to the port late morning on boarding day. If you fly in early afternoon then you would want to stay in downtown and maybe do a little walking around. We visit SF a few times a year when hotel prices are reasonable. We try to stay near Union Square. Then either Uber or taxi to the port. If Princess offers debarkation shuttle to SFO that would probably be your easiest deal.
muffin Posted June 28, 2022 Author #4 Share Posted June 28, 2022 Thank you for your insight. How long is the trip from port to airport? Is a flight at noon doable?

It always helps to include your budget and priorities. For a one day stay, budget aside, the Embarcadero or Union Square. For budget, one of the hotels like the Columbus Motor Inn group of hotels. If you leave the pier by 8:00 am you should get to SFO by 8:30 to 9:00am. The date and day of the week can make a big difference in the travel time anywhere in the area. Special events, parades etc. If it's next week the airport will be much busier than on a Tuesday next January for example. Anyway, just exit the ship as early as you are able, and you "should" be OK for the noon flight.

If you have a good SF experienced driver they will know all the back ways to the airport should things get backed up.
