Marella DREAM

Have just read the Dream has be beached in Alianga Turkey, for distmantling, had so many cruises on her , before the arrival of the ex R.C.I. ships lovely traditional cruise ship.

Fond memories of the Dream, she appeared to have a permanent list or rather a twist, rumoured to be that when they extended her the didn't line up the two halves correctly when welding back together 😉

 

I treated my mother to a surprise cruise for her 80th birthday, we had a suite with separate bedroom so she could have her customary early night and I would creep in at 2am when the casino closed.

First ever cruise was on Dream.

My wife and I were laughing the other day about it, we sailed from Palma and had a sea day the following day, when we woke up on the Monday morning, the ship was still and quiet and like 2 schoolkids we pulled back the curtains, kneeling on the bed bouncing up and down because we were in Trapani. (no balcony for us, outside plus)

We were naive and didn't have a clue about cruising, but it changed the way we wanted to spend our holidays.

I look back with fondness at the spur of the moment sing along with the waiters, someone just randomly producing a guitar and the next thing they have a group, everyone had a smile.

What was the thing with all the breads made into different shapes and fruit carved into faces and flowers?

Baked Alaska night and waiving your napkins in appreciation of the crew.

I know things have to change, but it seemed more relaxed back then, but maybe I'm just a moaning old fogey,

Its still the best way to spend your holiday money and I can't wait until September for the next adventure.

Yes they did midnight buffets back then with all sorts of amazing food presentation, also ice sculpture demos. I even had my favourite waitress Rain sneaking up on me with glasses of Merlot. My first cruise was on Celbration to Norway from Harwich and I even grew to ignore the famous 'wobble' she shared with Spirit.

That has brought back some lovely memories. My favourite ship, sadly missed.

We only sailed on her three times but it was also our favourite cruise ship. The layout, the size of the ship and the staff were perfect. Many happy memories.

Been on Spirit, Celebration, Majesty and Dream. All gone now. 

 

My last cruise before the Pandemic hit was on the Dream, little did I know that was the last time I would sail on her .

Looking at that picture with a tinge of sadness.

What a sad ending for a great little ship.😢
