They let you keep your sail and sign card in the machine, and just write down the folio number.  Some of them knew mine by heart before the week was over.

You just push the "staff" button so your folio number appears

In my experience; If you’re not betting blacks on the table, you can forget earning DOU.
we just recently bet green (table max was $50 on Heads Up Hold Em) and basically got ZERO for it.

we switched to playing slots, and earned 40k points between the both of us, then we got two steakhouse dinners (two separate nights)..wow..$180 worth of soft comps for going through $100k in slots (it takes $2.50 to earn a point)

From what I've seen/read/experienced, Carnival is fairly tight with backend comps, but incredibly generous with front-end. Expect fairly generous offers in a few weeks or months.

I hope but this isn’t the first cruise where we’ve gained 10’s of thousands of points…I think, like you said; they’re tight with comps (in Vegas, this kind of action would definitely be getting rooms, food, freeplay and vip event invites)

Meals on the DOU in the casino?  I reread your comment.  I meant very small tip on the DOU drinks and rare is the player that tips more.  The grat on comped meals is the same as paid tickets and more people seem to add a little extra for dinners.

Ah.  On drinks it probably is low just like cheers.  I always tip $2 per drink so have never noticed slow service - just the opposite.

Pre-Pandemic, the casino department was always great with comps! My husband would always get a free steakhouse and Cuccina for us both and it always came with a comped bottle of wine. We also have come back from port to find cookies or strawberries and champagne in our room with a note from the casino host. I don’t gamble as much, but still gamble, and I normally get offers for free “steakhouse upgrades” in the MDR. We have also received a free massage once when the restaurants were all booked.

From our experience, its better to go on a non-casino cruise for better perks. Less sharks I’m the water! We leave next weekend for our first since Covid and we will see how it compares!

I rotate every other cruise as an Elite followed by standard .By chance, my first cruise back from the pandemic I was on a Free Suite/ Drinks on US Everywhere/ Fun Play offer and didn't know until I went in the casino it was an Ultra cruise. I had no problems getting comps... they comped steakhouse 2 nights, Cucina 1 and Teppanyaki 1night. My host liked me so much she ordered cookies to the room just for her ( mom gambles alot but her average 7 night bankroll is $2.5k.... a fifth of my opening bankrolll, so her perks are much less.

It is harder to get dinner reservations on an Elite cruise as that's the "Carnival  Whale"  players all at the same time. My last Elite on Mardi Gras in March I was only comped 2 dinners with wine ( got strawberries and cookies delivered too)... I saw a few guests get 4 comped.meals.. They had to have My play was obviously very high as it warranted the coveted, hand delivered Free Suite bounce back card.

During my first few cruises when I had DOU or anywhere on the ship, I had a sticker placed on my S&S card, but that is no longer necessary.  Now, when playing in the casino, the server simply looks at my folio account (pushing a button on the slot machine) and brings me my drink.  Funny thing is that I don't drink alcoholic beverages, so my drinks are either a virgin frozen drink or bottled water.  However, I never have to wait too long for a server to ask if I would like something else b/c I always tip $2 cash for each drink as I have been told that the cash tip goes directly to the server.   Anywhere else on ship, they simply take down my folio number to find out that I have free drinks.

Once, while playing in the smoke-free casino on the Dream, we were comped a dinner at the Cucina Del Capitano by the casino boss/host - which was very nice.   I don't play slots to get comps, but it is nice to know I can have a drink (or drinks) while spending my time (and $$$) in one of the casinos.

Just curious, when you get a dinner comp or something from the pit boss/host, how is this done?  Do they send a certificate to your room or something?  Or while you're playing?  Or some other way?  How did you find out you had the dinner comp?  Thanks!

One of the hosts will find you and offer.

Never had a full dinner comp - don't think I gamble enough.  But I've had steakhouse selections (waiter in MDR notified me) and bottles of wine (certificates in room).

For us, when we were comped dinner at the Cucina del Capitano, we were asked by the pit boss/host what night and time we wanted dinner and were told to simply show up.  Upon arrival, we told the hostess our names, were seated and served.  It was so easy.  Although we were told that the gratuity was included (we never saw the bill), we left an additional tip because the meal and service were both excellent.    Sadly, Cucina was closed during our most-recent cruise, so we are looking forward to it opening back up so we can eat there on our next cruise.  Same with the Chef's Table.

Hope this explanation helps.

That’s what we get. I just play craps and the comps you get are, well, not the best. But I also realize that Carnival makes more money on slot players playing as long as I play craps, so I understand.

Getting drinks on us is huge for my wife and I though. Can be a pain having to go to the casino to get the drinks but find a good server, tip them well early, and it’s no big deal.

I wish that were true…we actually asked that exact question and they said ALLLL tips go into a “fleet wide” pool.  So, no matter how well you tip..the Individual employees who serve you PERSONALLY don’t really get any extra money..the best “tip” is to find out who their highest ranking boss is, and tell THEM that this specific employee should get shore leave.

I agree individuals don’t necessarily keep the tips they get (unless they pocket it but seems like a good way to lose your job). But I think tips are split up by area. Casino gets different pool of tips than dining, etc.
