Chen Rio beach, Cozumel

Has anyone been to Chen Rio beach in Cozumel.  What is your experience, any restaurants nearby.  Thank you.

Chen Rio is on east coast where there is no electricity and you need cash. You need a driver that stays with you or own transport. Easy to combine with round island tour.There are two restaurants El Pescador and Chen Rio. on the whole east coast beaches are more wild ocean with currents but Chen Rio is sheltered and popular with local families especially on Sundays. Downside is these beaches are affected badly by sargassum when it is the season.
 

If you do Cozumel Bar Hop which is a well organized tour and takes the planning and organization off your hands but obviously isn’t as flexible regarding timing, El Pescador is one of the stops.

Chen Rio used to do an excellent whole snapper.  But it's been several years now since we were there.

But I think El Pescador makes it as well.  I do hear they have excellent ceviche and pico de gallo.

Just make sure you do your homework on transport. You will not find taxis for return trip from Chen Rio and if it is sargassum season it will be unpleasant.

 

Otherwise it can be a nice stop, although not budget prices.
