Ca you use Royal Caribbean gift cards to pay deposits or balances on RC bookings?  Thanks.

I recently used a gift card toward the balance owed for my cruise.

I was going to buy some through my kids' school SCRIP program but the fine print said that they could be used for new bookings only.  The ones on Royal's website say "can be used towards the purchase of any Royal Caribbean International cruise vacation or as an onboard credit."  

If you aren't purchasing directly from Royal, make sure you check the fine print.

In our experience, it could only be used for cruise fare or OBC.  It could not be applied to taxes/fees.  Last week we used one to pay balance of our Nov cruise, redeemed online.  Took a day or 2 to see our remaining cruise balance reduced to zero.

The one time I used one, I called to apply it.  I just felt better knowing that it went through immediately.  (I was sent a new invoice on the spot)

I called to apply mine, too.   The rep said it would take 7-10 business days to apply.   It took about 5 days and then I called to get a new invoice.

 

My gift card was purchased from Royal Caribbean.
