shipgeeks Posted August 20, 2022 #1 Share Posted August 20, 2022 There have been recent news reports that the Northern Lights could be visible as far south as SW Pennsylvania in the days to come. Any similar forecasts in the areas covered on a C/NE cruise (as far north as Saint John, in our case)?

I can't speak to the situation in Saint John, but the NOAA report of the possibility of them being visible in PA and NJ only extended through Friday. Drill-n-Fill Posted August 25, 2022 #3 Share Posted August 25, 2022 The Northern Lights have been visible in NH. Very pretty.
topkatz Posted August 25, 2022 #4 Share Posted August 25, 2022 (edited) Here are a couple of web sites that I've used successfully recently. The first gives some info on the possibility of Aurora and the second gives information on sky cover. The next peak looks to be 3-5 Sept 2022. https://www.gi.alaska.edu/monitors/aurora-forecast https://www.passageweather.com/https://www.passageweather.com/ For Passage Weather select the area you want to display and when the page comes up, select the viability & precipitation tab above the first graphic. Scroll down to see the cloud cover forecast for your area. HTH. From a couple of nights ago (8/19) - fuzzy cuz we were on a moving ship. Edited August 25, 2022 by topkatz Added note about photo fuzziness.
topkatz Posted September 4, 2022 #5 Share Posted September 4, 2022 Took this Aurora photo early this morning (4 Sept) off the coast of Prince Edward Island near Souris. Again, the fuzziness is due to the vibrations of the ship engines and long exposure time. 3
shipgeeks Posted September 4, 2022 Author #6 Share Posted September 4, 2022 Fantastic photos! How early did you get up to take this one?
topkatz Posted September 4, 2022 #7 Share Posted September 4, 2022 This particular photo was taken at 03:40 AM local time. Stayed up for a bit over 1 hour taking photos. As you can see, the Aurora was low on the horizon. If anyone is interested, settings were: 15 sec, f5.6, ISO 2500, 34mm focal length.
