At Tropicante now. No seaweed.

Carolina is no longer here, but it is still up and running. We got here early, at 9:30, and it is a pretty slow....as it was when we were here in June. Hope it picks up for them.

Sad to hear Caroliina isn't there any longer. Do you know if she moved to another location?  Steve had sold his interest.  Is it still called Tropicante?  Is Jorge still there?

We were there on 11/22 and Tropicante was dead, only a couple of people there.  They were asking $15 for chairs so that might be some of the reason.  We went to Krazy Lobster and had a good day.  It is a shame about Tropicate, it used to be one of our favorite stops.  It looks like a shell of what it used to be.

I heard that the original owners of the Tropicante closed it down during the pandemic.  It is being run by new people.  That is probably why it is not doing as well now.  It is a shame about the changes.  Next time we are there we will try the Krazy Lobster.

Not quite true.  The original owner sold the business and moved back to the US due to some family issues.  There was a time during the pandemic when NO cruise ship came to Costa Maya.  Many places closed and haven't reopened. But Tropicante did stay open once cruise ships returned. The manager and some of the staff were able to stay on a few months and run as normal while hopefully looking for new digs.  But evidently all have now moved on.  Krazy Lobster has encroached on a number of empty spots along the malecon, expanding their operation, a nice opportunity if they can keep it.

There was a post on another thread saying that the Tropicante was charging $8 for beers, etc. Like really crazy prices. There is no way they could get that price, given the other competition. If it's true, that's just an idiot that doesn't understand how to run a business.

I wonder if that was a rival beach restaurant trying to libel them? There are some pretty snaky people in that business.
