nlclhc Posted September 14, 2022 #1 Share Posted September 14, 2022 Hello, I am sailing in the Seascape next June with my wife and two kids (16 & 13). We are now booked into a Balcony Fantastica in deck 15. Our TA has offered an upgrade to YC for $6400 which include $500 OBC (now we have $200). Is that worth the money? I understand this is a subjective question but I would like to hear your opinions. What are the chances that I will be offered a bid for YC costing me much less? Thanks very much. Selion Posted September 14, 2022 #2 Share Posted September 14, 2022 Hello & welcome! A few questions: How long is the cruise? Which YC cabin category? Is $6400 in addition to your current booking, or for a total of $6400? I've cruised YC twice and Fantastica once. I can say the money paid for YC is definitely worth it for the extra space and service. I'll also add that my cruise in Fantastica was as fun as the ones in YC. nlclhc Posted September 14, 2022 Author #3 Share Posted September 14, 2022 It is for 7 nights in the Caribbean, I will be going from a BR4 to a YC1 and the price is on top what I already paid which is was not much ($2400). Thanks.
Selion Posted September 14, 2022 #4 Share Posted September 14, 2022 So for a total of $8800 in YC1. Is it 1 cabin or 2 cabins? If it's 2 cabins, the total is OK at $4400 each. If it's 1 cabin, it's a hard pass. I'd suggest booking another cabin for the extra space at much lower cost. BTW deposits in Fantastica is refundable, while deposits in YC are not. You can always keep your current booking in Fantastica and book into YC or upgrade later.
Yoshikitty Posted September 14, 2022 #5 Share Posted September 14, 2022 Hi there, I have never sail with YC so I cannot give you any opinion. You are travelling with 2 teenagers, have you consider booking 2 balcony cabins with connection door? It will be more comfortable for everyone. nlclhc Posted September 15, 2022 Author #6 Share Posted September 15, 2022 Thanks very much, you have convinced me it is a bad deal, so I will wait to see if I get an email with an upgrade bid. What are the chances of that?
dexddd Posted September 15, 2022 #7 Share Posted September 15, 2022 Welcome to CC. As I've said before, YC upgrades are really not a good deal. That is more than we normally pay for four of us in YC straight out. Our one experience, only subsequent email bids will be higher. Also, how old are kids? Unless you get a room for five, slim chance, the sofa beds in YC are dinky, like between a twin and double.
Happygcruiser Posted September 15, 2022 #8 Share Posted September 15, 2022 It doesn't sound too good in my opinion either. Too high price. (I was lucky to be upgraded to YC duplex with Jacuzzi for free. 2 adults+10 and 15 year old kids) For our original cabin we payed 2400 EUR with everything.(Drink packages included.) Rare Morgsmom Posted September 15, 2022 #9 Share Posted September 15, 2022 That'd be a hard pass. With two teens your best bet is to book two adjoining cabins.
