Storage in a penthouse veranda (PV) room

In case anyone is wondering, I just counted and there are:

- 14 good sized drawers

- 2 small drawers next to the bed

- 2 more big drawers in the bathroom

- 4 shelves in the room (5 if you have the coffee maker removed)

- 4 narrow shelves in the bathroom

- 1 closet in which to hang things (with a shelf along the top on one side and a shelf on top of the drawers on the other)

Suitcases fit easily under the bed.

In short, this room has bagoodles of storage. We’re using maybe half of it, if that.

Note: We’re on Viking Mars, which has drawers in the closet. But I believe all Ocean ships now share this newer configuration.

Good to know Twitchly, we’re going to be on Mars starting 27th Sept. but only in DV so hoping if you’re not using all your space, DV is going to work out for us - bearing in mind I’m not a light packer 🤪 Hope you’re having a great time.  BTW how has the restaurant service & food been?

I am not a light packer and have never used all the PV storage.  We were fine in the DV cabins on ships that have the 3 drawers in the closet.  On the Sky for Iceland the storage was tight as we had clothes for 3 seasons and the DV's were not upgraded to the 3 additional drawers yet.

Thanks for that - whatever cruise we’ve been on I’ve always managed to fill all closets, drawers etc. I really should try to pack more efficiently/frugally but like to have lots of choice 😂😂

The service is very good; the food is better than I remember it from our previous cruise in 2018. More interesting choices, including Indian curries and some spicy dishes. Very welcome.

For folks who are interested in specific dimensions of the storage areas, there are some links to other conversations which include measurements for both PV and DV staterooms in the following post from the 22/23 WC: #5121

We were in a PV for our 54 day back to back last fall/winter.  We did not use all of the drawers, and in fact, used the big drawer in the credenza as our laundry hamper!
I think I posted dimensions of all the drawers while I was on that cruise when someone asked.

Thanks - pleased to hear that. I was quite concerned when I read Dr Koob’s report of his cruise experiences.

Currently on Sea, no drawer in the closet of this PV cabin 4017.

PV cabins never had drawers in closet.  The early ships Star, Sea, Sun and Sky did not have drawers in the DV or V closets.  The drawers were added to later ships starting with Orion.  The Sky was refitted with closet drawers in the DV's sometime after July, 2021.

Please keep in mind that food is a very subjective subject and don't take anyone's critique too much to heart.  We love the food and don't find two hours for dinner too much ... you're in the middle of the ocean, what are you in a hurry to do?  We enjoy relaxing and having the time to chat with each other and sometimes our "neighbors".  For that matter there have been times we have felt rushed in the restaurant ... so take it FWIW.

I agree. We also feel that dinner should be quite leisurely & for us take up best part of the evening, chatting & socialising. I suppose that individual ships & chefs will impact to some degree on taste & presentation. As a Viking newbie, I think I was more concerned with the aspects of waitress ‘being too busy to bring drinks menu’, and being ignored for 20 minutes etc. Nevertheless I’m going with a positive open mind. 7 days & (still) counting. 😄😄

Here on Mars, our PV cabin has drawers in the closet.

Actually, the Sun did have drawers in the closet.  This ship was our first cruise.

I was able to get my mower, fertilizer, and gardening tools stored without any trouble.

I think there’s confusion about PV vs DV. The PVs do have drawers in closet—at least on Sun, Orion, Jupiter, Sea, that we were on.

Guess this is the Big Drawer Debate.  I need a diversion anyways.  On the Star in 2018 we had PV 6072 with no drawers in closet.  On Jupiter in 2020 we had a DV and were delighted to have drawers in the closet.  On Sky in July 2021 we had a DV with no drawers in the closet but i brought my hanging shelf.  On the Sea in November, 2021 we had PV 4021 and there were no drawers in the closet.  We are on the Sea again in early 2023 and i was hoping the DV closets would be refit but i don't see the ship having any down time before then to do so.  Its a warm weather cruise so less to pack anyways i guess.  Any PV we have enjoyed did not need drawers in the closet.
