Breakaway Syd Norman's Pour House - Haven Guest Question

45 minutes prior to the show is when the Haven Concierge will escort you to Syd Norman’s via back stairways.  Your group will be the only ones there and will have choice of any seat in the venue, albeit there is no “HAVEN ONLY” seating area.

This seems to depend on the concierge. We had the same experience as graphicguy on the Getaway in February. But when we were on the Breakaway in June, we asked our concierge about this and he said they didn't do that for Syd Norman's. We couldn't seem to change his mind so we simply went down early enough to get a decent spot in the line.

Bottom line, check with the concierge in advance.

Enjoy!

Well...that's unfortunate.  Our Concierge was proactive in getting us into Syd Norman's.  I recall for one show (I think it was RUMOURS) I was actually running behind.  I had told the concierge I wanted to go to that show.  He made a note of it and actually called my cabin to tell me he was leading our group to Syd Norman's in 15 minutes.

Yeah, we were really surprised when we got told "we don't do that" on Breakaway. Thought maybe our earlier experience had been the exception, but it sounds like they got it right on GA.

Pretty wild that Breakaway wouldn't do it. We only did Haven once, but found from talking to people (plus Gary's extensive Haven guide) that pretty much any reasonable request is usually accommodated.

Our only ask the week we were on was to get into Sixx since we like the bar stools at the back of the theater vs the seats. They took us some back way into the venue shortly before they opened the doors to the main line.

Turned out the cruise was mostly empty so we would have been fine even without the escort but was nice to use the perk at least once.

Only reasonable reason I can think of to deny that request is if they limit the number of Haven pre-entries so when they open the doors to the line the place isn't already full up. Maybe a number of people had the same request and they couldn't do any more, but if that was the case I feel like they would say so.

When we were on the Breakaway (Haven) last fall, the conceirge was more than happy to escort us to the back door about 30/45 minutes before showtime.  We were the only ones.  Apparently, some girls that had been first in line outside the door were a little upset that we got in before them.... I think we took their seats...

Anyway, those of you that have seen it, what did you think??  I found it to be only ok... it was very staged and seemed like they were actors going thru the motions. With just a little more effort, it could have been fabulous.  We are on the Getaway next month, we will probably give them a second chance to 'wow' us,.... I do love the music.

Are you talking about the Rumours show or all the times the band is playing?

We did not go to the Rumours show.  Maybe we will this time. I don't remember if they do a different show each time, but the show we went to was the 80's...

We just got off the Breakaway and our concierge also told us ( and this was the first time in our many times in the Haven) no about being escorted to the theater early. I said point blank that this was not acceptable. The haven seats are not close enough for me to comfortably see and my husband to hear. She arranged for our butler to bring us down. When others in the Haven saw us go they were so happy to join us. Needless to say her tip reflected this and our butler received double .

I've stayed in the Haven many times, so I'm not a Haven-hater, but the notion of giving Haven folks first crack at seating at Syd's or Cavern Club -- such small venues -- crosses the elitism line. Purely my opinion of course.  Yeah, I know we/you pay more for the Haven, but it's a real 'in your face' move.  I know many of you will disagree.

That said, I haven't seen it happen in my cruises, so as the commenters are saying, maybe it's spotty based on the particular ship or particular Haven staff.  Fleet-wide, they probably should not allow it.

As for the shows at Syd's, they are enjoyable.  Good singers and good bands. Definitely scripted/staged.  Look at some other ship's exact same show on YouTube: same lines of dialogue, same costumes, everything.

I do disagree.  It's a perk of the Haven which does not come cheap.  It's what I pay for..... and in my experience, there was just the two of us, so it's not like Haven guests are taking over the whole place....

We are on the Breakaway in a few weeks and definitely will ask the concierge. What is her name ? We don't ask the concierge for much but this I plan to for sure!

They were outstanding on the Getaway this past summer.  They had a 60s night, an 80s night, Rumours (the entire Fleetwood Mac album) and prom night.  EVeryone of them as good as the other.  HIghly recommend catching the show.

I’m betting you’ll enjoy it.  They’re very good.  Each show is different from the last, considering the theme.

The shows all had a theme.   So, their performances weren’t “off the cuff” and clearly rehearsed, which is a good thing.

Can’t remember the Concierge’s name off the top of my head, or if he’s still on the Breakaway.  But, he put up a sign at the Concierge desk reminding people of the time you had to be at his desk to be escorted to Syd Norman’s.  You won’t go in the front door, but will be escorted a back way.

IIRC, he had us meet 45 minutes before show time.

Funny…..I told my sister (who knows I’m active on these boards, and cruising in general) that someone thinks I’m “elite”.  She thought that was pretty funny!  I’m surprised I even know how to spell “elite”.

I'm an RN working 30 years with 2 jobs so I guess I'm elite too 😁

Could someone please tell me if there is a cost to go to Syd Norman's? In the app, it shows that it is $269 per person. I can't imagine a full bar and guests worried about seats at $269 each. I only see this in the app under my reservation. I know there was a cost to go to the Skyy Bar and that isn't showing as an extra cost. Thanks

There is definitely no cost associated with Syd Norman's. Very weird that would be showing up in your app. Where exactly does it show that?
