I wonder how some people here survived when every city corner had a phone booth with a big book that had their names, phone numbers and even addresses in them. 🤔

I don't ever recall addresses' being shown in our area.

Really? That’s interesting. Phone books had addresses as well as phone numbers in all of the states that I’ve lived in.

I must have forgotten about that. My husband doesn't remember it either.

Old age is getting to us.

I've worked for 'the phone company' over 36 years. One of my very first jobs was to verify street names and addresses against the phone number for every person who had a land line phone.

Me too!

That was the only way to differentiate between people with similar or even identical names.

In the really old days, the listings were 'subscriber last, subscriber first', street address.

Later, that changed to 'subsciber last, subscriber first & subscriber spouse first'

Where's mr. potstech when you need him?

And, of course, that was how ahnold found Sarah Conner.   He tore the page out of a phone book in a phone booth,

and went to each address.

It was in a movie.  It must be true.

The first two Sarah Conner's in LA didn't survive. 😀

Ooops, somebody beat me to the punch.

In our suburban Boston town in the late 60s/early 70s after the parent(s) entry there was often an entry entitled kid's line. I was jealous.  My parents saw no reason why the four kids would need to have a phone line!
