5:00 am debarkation in Rome . Looking for hotel with early check in

Early check in is always a function of availability. Most any hotel will check you in if they have rooms available. But they aren't going to leave a room unbooked the previous day so you can check in early...at least not without you paying for it. Also, never have met a hotel that won't hold your bags until you can actually get into your room. So, I wouldn't book a particular hotel based on early check in.

Docking at 5am doesn't mean getting off at 5:05. Typically you will be able to stay on board until around 9 or 9:30, if getting to your hotel early is a concern.

If you are planning on going into Rome, we would suggest that getting into a hotel room is not critical.  As CruiserBruce says, just about any hotel will hold your luggage even if you arrive early in the morning.  When we disembark in Civitavecchia, if in no hurry we will stay on the ship until after 9am in order to enjoy a leisurely breakfast and not get caught up in the usual early debarkation "madness."  Sometime after 9, when most folks are gone, we disembark and do our thing (be it getting a rental car, heading to the train station, meeting a pre-booked transfer, etc.  If going to Rome, not much is open too early (especially on Sunday and Monday).  We head to our hotel, drop our luggage, and then head out to enjoy our day.

One other thing...about valuables!  Even if you cannot get into a hotel room, nearly all hotels will allow you access to the hotel safe (or safe deposit boxes) that are usually near the front desk.  When we drop our luggage, we also lock-up our valuables in the hotel safe (one can never be too careful).

We've only ever disembarked in Civitavecchia once.

I don't recall what time, but it sure as hell wasn't 5am.😵

When a cruise itinerary shows a disembarkation port as daft o'clock in the morning it's a pound to a penny that's the ship's arrival time - , luggage has to be unloaded, immigration and customs have to be manned, etc., and the captain has to await permission to start disembarkation.

I think it more likely that the earliest possible disembarkation will be closer to 7am (haul your own bags from your cabin) and regular assisted disembarkation around 7.30 to 9.30.

Since you don't have to race to an airport, I suggest you have a leisurely breakfast while the lemmings jam the gangways, and disembark around 9am.

That puts you in Rome around 10.30 to 11am (bare minimum drive or train something over one hour, plus faffing around).

Hotel check-ins are usually quoted as somewhere around 1pm to 2.30pm, but as per Hank & Bruce's posts the vast majority will hold your luggage from whatever time you arrive. And if they're not too busy doing check-outs and have a suitable empty room,  to reduce pressure on their staff they'll probably check you in & give you a room key there and then

And the same applies to checking-out - if you have a late flight, when you check out most hotels will hold your luggage until late in the day.
