Packing a fan in checked luggage?

I've decided to follow the advice of bringing a fan on my upcoming cruise. I've read, though, that some people who packed one in their checked baggage ended up having their luggage sent to the naughty room. Has this happened to anyone, or have you successfully packed a fan in your luggage? Would rather avoid having to pack it in my carry-on which will be a small backpack. Departing out of NYC if that makes a difference. Thanks!

I pack a small one every trip.  We were on the Bliss 10/25 - 11/6, and didn't have a problem getting my luggage delivered to my room.  Good Luck to ya, and enjoy your cruise.

Amazon has some very small (3" diameter) fans that plug into a USB port.  We just took two on a NCL cruise and they worked great.

I think it's hit & miss. In my 30 some NCL cruises, I've never ever had an issue with my small 4" fan that I always pack in my carry on personal bag, until this past January on the Breakaway. Security sent me to a special table and they took it away and said "You can get it back when you get on board" Well, NOT quite the issue, I fought with CS in the Atrium for 4 hours about being a diabetic & medically needed my fan. OMG!!!!! This would have been a deal breaker for me. Finally after 9:30 p.m. that night I got it back. Not a pleasant few hours for me.

Fans are not even on the NCL prohibited item list but I have had them taken away also.

We had two in November on Spirit.  Had no issues.

I have 2 very small compact fans still packed in the boxes they came in. I can't imagine they'd take them. I will put them in my carry on instead. ugh!

I had small usb fan still in box in my checked bag. No issues. Also, I didn’t use it. Won’t pack again.

Are these fans for the breeze or the white noise (or maybe both)?

I've brought along a fully battery operated small fan with no issue.  Even being able to plug in a USB could be an issue, so I avoided that potential pitfall
