Food at Chankanaab?

My friend and I are probably going to spend the day at Chankanaab to do some snorkeling and just relax.  We have our own snorkeling equipment so booking the "package" seems unnecessary.  How is the food in the restaurants? Should we add the Lunch package?  Any information would be most appreciated!

TIA

Cindy

The buffet gets panned a lot on various food sites.   You can order off the menu, but the food is overpriced. If the food package is for the Mayan cuisine in place that's not on the beach, it's worth the adventure.

Not sure I understand your post @crewsweeper  - adventure? cabana beach?

In my experience the buffet is the lunch package and is limited but edible. My daughter  got included drinks although she doesn’t drink much and number was unclear. The first large restaurant is supposed to be overpriced. We had a palapa on the beach and ordered from the beach bar and it was fine, it has been a while and I would expect “tourist “ prices at somewhere like Chankanaab but I don’t recall it being unreasonable. @mitsugirly

has a couple of extensive photo reviews with prices as I recall although somewhat dated now.

Normally, I would just pay independently and use $2 off coupon found online although check basic excursion price through your cruise line to compare. We recently found the cruise price including buffet lunch and transport was  cheaper on sale than paying independently.
