pdmlynek Posted January 26, 2023 #1 Share Posted January 26, 2023 According to https://www.cruisehive.com/norwegian-removes-popular-port-from-multiple-cruises/93033 , some NCL ships won't visit Corfu anymore. No reason given. Can someone shed some light on this?
deliver42 Posted January 26, 2023 #2 Share Posted January 26, 2023 They don't want to pay for the extra fuel to reach the port.
kathy49 Posted January 26, 2023 #3 Share Posted January 26, 2023 deliver 42 is exactly correct. They are actually trying to market the changes as something about protecting the "environment" just as they are doing with reducing the entertainment, no more night time service etc. It is all COST SAVING and at the same time they are raising their rates and fees for all the extras. Corfu is a very special island...not at all like the other greek islands...I think some may well reconsider and cancel. It seems that daily the value in cruising is going down and the product delivered is much different than expected. Using the "environment" as an excuse is pretty insulting to passengers. Jojo27 Posted January 27, 2023 #4 Share Posted January 27, 2023 We received an email about the change for our May Breakaway cruise and it did not speak to environmental issues. Replacing Corfu with Olympia, gives us an extra hour in Mykonos and an earlier arrival in Malta. Is there a fuel costs savings by not going to Corfu then to Malta? Probably, but that is the world we live in today. Everything costs more, and every cruise line and most businesses for that matter are looking for ways to improve profit and recover from losses during the pandemic. It is the choice you have to make before booking a cruise, and if the cost cutting changes are deal breakers people should choose another form of travel.
