badger10 Posted February 15, 2023 #1 Share Posted February 15, 2023 We are thinking of taking the ferry from Naples port to Capri to do some exploring on our own. When we arrive at the marina, we thought we might see if there are any boat captains that offer tours around the Capri coastline and Blue Grotto, etc. Are we likely to find something available the day of or do we absolutely need to book this in advance? We like the thought of having a more flexible schedule, but don't want to be disappointed in finding nothing when we get there.
Rare Hlitner Posted February 15, 2023 #2 Share Posted February 15, 2023 If the weather cooperates, you should find several boat tours sold right on the pier as you exit from the ferry. My only advice would be that before you part with Euros, make sure to ascertain how long you will need to wait around at the pier. Some of these operators will wait until they get a full load, and this can wear on one's patience. Hank
euro cruiser Posted February 15, 2023 #3 Share Posted February 15, 2023 It really depends on when - in July and August they might be sold out but otherwise you shouldn't have a problem walking up. Good advice above from Hank, do ask.

Molokai_Traveler Posted February 16, 2023 #5 Share Posted February 16, 2023 I've done this. I'd not buy something in advance. If all else fails, the top is worth the trip. There's plenty of interesting restaurants and sites. Also public transportation is easy

Have you pre-booked your ferry tickets? it says check-in within 30 mins for the ferry. If ship docs at Naples at 7am.. do you think we could catch the 8.05am Ferry if we have to check in 30mins before?

I'm assuming we won't make the 8:05 ferry, as it takes awhile for the ship to be cleared once it's docked so it will probably be at least 7:30-8:00 before we're able to get off. One option I'm looking at is doing a private full day excursion, with a boat taking us from Naples, on a tour of Capri, time on the island, and then back to Naples. By the time we pay for the ferry both ways and then a boat tour (which we want to do anyway), it seems like the convenience may be worth the bit more money, particularly if we can find a small group to split the cost. It's worth a couple of hours to go up top. Can you include that?

I'm just looking at tours available online. One I found that looks interesting is https://www.capri.com/en/c/sunrise-sorrento/i/SSRMB. I would assume the time on Capri could be spent however one would want.

Would love to hear what you ended up doing and where and any details youd like to share! TY!

We ended up joining a private boat tour, which includes getting us over to the island so we don't have to deal the the ferry. There are some great tours you can join at italytoursharing.com. dani negreanu Posted March 23, 2023 #12 Share Posted March 23, 2023 We had some tour operators in mind when we docked in Capri (didn't want to book anything in advance). The Wendy's were right at the pier, and it was an amazing tour. http://www.capriwhales.it/who-are-us/?lang=en Just be sure to buy return tickets for the ferry. We took the "quick" one.
