Suite 10006 Nieuw Amsterdam information

Just back from 2 weeks in a Neptune Suite (10006) on the Nieuw Amsterdam and thought I would share some information on this cabin and sister 10005.

We were assigned this cabin under a casino Guarantee booking, so had to take what we were assigned.

Pros - larger than normal cabin with two loveseats, one of which folded out into a single bed. We enjoyed the forward facing large window, as it allowed great views of where we were going.  TV viewing was better than other Neptunes as the TV is mounted facing the two loveseats and two nice chairs (rather than facing the bed).  Being close to the forward elevator was nice for accessing forward parts of the ship (Crows Nest, World Stage, Casino, Spa areas and Lido pool).

Cons - more "movement" when in rough waters. Very small balcony (two chairs and a small drink table) only about 3 feet deep and 2/3rds of it metal instead of plexiglass.  Long walks to main dining room and other aft areas of the ship.  Remote location from the Neptune Lounge (deck 7 mid ship) reduced our use of the Lounge.

Overall - while not a "bad" cabin, we would rather be in a Neptune more midship, closer to the Neptune Lounge.

Were you able to get some pics for Halfacts?  We have had a handicap (guarantee) SS cabin on the front of the ship and agree that the forward view is great but there is not enough room for a decent balcony.  You have pointed out the exact reasons I would not chance taking a Neptune Suite guarantee on some ships.  Thanks for your review.

We did two other Neptune guarantees over the past 6 months and ended up with great locations, so I thought we would try again, but no such luck this time.  I think that the reason may have been that we were doing back to back , 7 day cruises.  Also, the ship was sold out for the Neptunes this time and the Neptune guarantees get the leftovers (after the upsells are all completed).

Next time I am going back to booking Signatures........

To be closer to the Neptune Lounge does cost more than a few hundred dollars more, when booking a regular fare Neptune Suite.

Your story made me glad just last night we paid the extra to "choose our cabin" on our upcoming Eurodam - an interesting seven day less visited ports in Alaska - Sitka, Icy Straights, etc and the "Stephen's Passage". We do like being right next to the Neptune Lounge - saves me trips up to the Lido instead, for tantalizing little bites.

Not a surprise. On a 2022 deck plan of the Eurodam, Cabin 10005 and 6 were Signature Spa Suites (Category SU). Attached PDF...

Now that makes sense!

Fortunately, you were on a casino offer. I wouldn't pay $$$$$ for a Neptune Guarantee because it's likely to be a former-Signature Suite (SB) in the corners of the ship, as far down as Deck 4. And, the price would be thousands of dollars more than a SS suite. 🙄

Very True.  Last two casino offers I was assigned great SA locations - so I guess its the LUCK of the draw!  Going back to Signatures from now on.

Same thing happened to us, DaveOKC,  last summer on the NA.  Guarantee Neptune SB (hugh balcony) "upgraded" to the forward cabin Neptune.  Never again guarantee when the "upgrade" could be to the front spa Neptune.  Useless balcony is the worst part.

We must have been really lucky. Both times we have booked a Neptune Guarantee we ended up on Deck 7 mid ship.

We got the same in our two Fall 2022 cruises, but now things are tightening up it seems.  Need to consider this in the future when booking.

Those forward staterooms should have probably stayed being Signature Suites, I am sure the Bean Counters were involved in the early planning of this ship. It does really surprise me that this would be so different from the Eurodam. Learn something new, I had not realized there were these differences in the two ships. Sq footage wise there is a lot more real estate in those staterooms on the Nieuw Amsterdam plus lay out is drastically different.

Hi Dave - looking into this ship for our Alaska trip. Thank you so much for the review... I was hoping they updated the balcony for this suite but it seems smaller than the Verandah Suite balcony? Would you agree? And it seems like the ship comes across over the balcony to obstruct your view?

Balcony is very shallow - we had to put the chairs sideways.  In fact we had to ask for foot rests, as they were not on the balcony.  View was not really obstructed as I recall.  One nice thing is the forward facing large window providing great views.  Another thing I liked was how the loveseat sized sofas(2) faced the TV.
