And the lists from TA are as absurd as TA's "top restaurants" lists because they are based on number and quality of reviews which is why amazing beaches that get fewer visitors and therefore fewer reviews don't make the list. Not a single beach in Thailand, Bali, Greece, Africa, Tahiti, etc is "top", but a beach in Iceland is???

California Pizza Kitchen is a "top 10 Italian" restaurant in Los Angeles on TripAdvisor, and I can assure you no one considers CPK as top 10 in LA. It is a pleasant chain, but not top anything.

Dr. Beach is just one guy's opinion, but at least his criteria is objective and transparent.

Travel + Leisure's list is "most beautiful", which is subjective, but at least is a popularity contest by volume.

We see that Dr. Beach has Coronado Beach in the #7 spot on his list and TA has it in the #8 spot, which sounds like they do think alike at times and perhaps aren't that absurd.

For whatever it is worth, here is another list.  Can't say we would rate them as they have, but to each his or her own:

"Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa was named the Best Hotel in Hawaiʻi by USA TODAY in the publications 10 Best Readers’ Choice Awards.  The resort was selected for its “plush ocean view rooms, lagoon-style pool” and location at Kāʻanapali Beach.

Maui properties dominated the list with half of the spots. Others making the 10 Best list included: Westin Maui Resort & Spa at No. 2; the Kāʻanapali Beach Hotel at No. 3; The Ritz-Carlton Maui at Kapalua at No. 5; and the Four Seasons Resort in Lānaʻi City at No. 9.

Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa was also recently selected as a winner of Good Housekeeping’s 2023 Best Family Travel Award".

With most "reader's choice" awards, there isn't enough of a broad base of people who've stayed at top properties and those who do stay at top hotels like Montage and Four Seasons may be more fussy in their ratings.

I like the Sheraton Maui a lot, but it isn't even the top hotel on Maui, let alone, the state. I think the Four Seasons, Montage and Fairmont are all nicer and you could make a case for the Ritz Carlton (I'd choose the Sheraton because the Ritz isn't on the beach), the Andaz, Grand Wailea and Hotel Wailea. My favorite on Maui is actually Napili Kai because it is an unspoiled reminder of Maui of yesteryear.

I think the Four Seasons Hualalai is easily the best hotel in the state and in terms of luxury and service, Halekulani isn't far behind, nor are the Mauna Lani and Fairmont Orchid. But again, an outlier, the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel is my favorite Hawaii Island hotel because we stayed there in 1965 when it was a Rock Resort.

But lists do give us something to talk about.
