Show reservations??

Recommended Posts

It’s been almost 10 years since we sailed on a Royal Caribbean ship.  I keep seeing comments about reservations for the onboard shows.  Is this something new?  We used to just walk into the theater and take a seat or find a seat at the smaller venues, like the comedy shows.  Sailed on another line last year and that’s how it worked.   Are you required/expected to book a reservation in advance these days on RC?

It depends on the ship. Advance booking is a thing on Oasis and Quantum class ships but not necessarily for every single show.

Sometimes, again ship and show dependent, you need to book for particular shows once you get on board. If this is the case, the information will be available in the Compass and in the app.

On Oasis Class reservations are needed, many shows are sold out a day or so after reservation bookings open. There are always stand by lines that allow those without reservations to enter the show room 5 - 10 minutes before show time.  A show or two recommends reservations on Quantum  Class, last two sailings on Quantum Class there was no one checking for reservations at the shows that needed them.

On the mega ships (Oasis class/Quantum/Icon) the capacity of passengers far exceed the number of seats and normal cruises will have an early and late show.  The mega ships, will have the same show at several different times AND days and you reserve the time.  That way, everyone has a chance.  Example they might have 5 or 6 shows of the ice show but you only pick one.

We have always cruised on Liberty so we never made reservations.  We have a cruise on April 30th on Allure.  Reservations opened yesterday for entertainment.  We were able to reserve for Mama Mia, Aqua Show, Ice Show, and Adult Comedy
