Dinner again in Atlantide.

 

Rojaan had the day's asparagus starter and I the tuna.

 

Sticking to the day's menu Rojaan had the duck and I the Malabar chicken. Rojaan really liked the duck but I found the chicken not really spicy.

 

Rojaan stuck to the day's menu and had the raspberries and I went with a cheese plate.

Woke to the arrival into Valencia.

 

Arriving just before us the MSC Seashore. Looks bigger than the Grandiosa but has less passengers. Still nearly 5000.

 

And off on our excursion.

Lots of old chimneys dating from the Industrial past.

 

The old riverbed makes a wonderful parkland oasis.

We alighted from the bus at one of the 2 surviving gates to the city.

Now we commenced our walk through the old town.

 

This square had examples of the 17th,18th,19th and 20th century styles on the 4 sides. Pictures in that order.

The house of a famous Valencia family. The Borgias. There were 2 popes. The second elected in 1492 and put in place the Spanish Inquisition. No oter Spanish Pope since then.

 

And of course Lucretia Borgia.

Valencia always strikes me as a very livable city - and the indoor market is wonderful.

You may have noticed quite a few narrow houses in this area. Most were of 4 stories so no area for a lift so it was up a circular staircase such as this one in a shop.

 

On the outside a pulley system to get larger or heavy objects up to the higher stories..

Now came our rest stop at this 200 year old cafe run by the same family.

 

And this is what it served.

 

So a drink called Horchata made from tiger nuts with copious sugar. Quite sweet.

 

Served with a local pastry.

We are now out of the old city and walking towards the bus.

A little bit of drama when an older couple had a fall crossing the street. Fortunately no serious injuries.

Now at the Opera House said to be modelled on a Spartan's helmet.

Spain has  interesting  architecture and cites to explore, with a dynamic history of various regions  and it peoples. It is endlessly fascinating.  Thanks for the pcictures, it bring back memories.
