We Rented an SUV

We decided to rent a car and DIY. The taxis were very expensive. We rented a Dodge Durango from Budget car rental. We had 6 people. The vehicle was $120 for the day including gas. We had the vehicle from 8:30 until 3 pm. Driving is on the left side of the road.  We drove to Christiansted first to avoid the crowds. We drove along the Queen Mary Highway. We were able to park at Fort Christiansted. We toured the fort and many of the other historical buildings in town and walked along the boardwalk (a lot of tarpon in the water). Next we drove along the East End Road passing many resorts and the Array telescope.  We stopped at Point Udall . We had a good view of  Buck Island and Jack's and Isaac's Bay.  We were short on time so we headed towards Cane Bay. We wanted to go snorkeling but decided we didn't have enough time. Hopefully there will be another chance. It is a nice beach with shade trees. It is popular for diving and snorkeling. We drove back to the ship in Frederiksted along Mahogany Road which was very tropical and full of potholes. We were glad we had an SUV.  We really liked exploring St. Croix and hope to return. Budget car rental was great to work with.

We did the same back in December.  St. Croix was really easy to navigate and we had a great day.  We hit Point Udall as well and did a quick hike.

I looked into renting a car as well from the Budget location nearest the port.  Their website indicates that they close at 1PM but that the location may be a "key dropoff" location.  Did anyone have to bring their car back early or could you just drop off the car and keys when you were done?

We used avis from the airport.  It was really easy.  Yes, we had to take a cab $30 each way but it was all good.  We were unable to rent at port or drop off at port as we booked it too late.  We had such a nice day DIY, the $60 was an afterthought.  I'd email or whatsapp them.
