Live from the NCL Breakaway May 6-16, 2023 – Spring in Italy, Greece, Malta and France Roundtrip from Rome

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know if it is easy to catch the train from Cannes, France to Monte Carlo, Monaco?  NCL is sold out of the Monte Carlo, Monaco excursions.  I saw it is an hour each way.  Any info on getting around Monte Carlo once the train arrives?

Thanks

I curious about that too as I wrote to them this am by WhatsApp but no response

I called Bob's limo USA number about the tour we want and spoke to a man who was pretty friendly.  I booked the Pisa and Cinque Terre tour with them for our family.  If anyone has had any experience with their tours I'd greatly appreciate hearing from you. Thanks in advance

We did that back in 2019. It was super easy. After the tender dropped us off in Cannes, we walked to train station. Train ride wasn’t too long and we walked around Monte Carlo. We had no issues.

Day trip to Tuscany yesterday with tour group “Walks”.  3 hours drive each way, stopped at 4 different sites/villages.  Very scenic and a nice break from Rome.

Thank you so much!  Can you tell me should we buy tickets online somewhere ahead of time and if so where?  Do the trains run regularly every 30 minutes or so?  Also, do you remember if the train comes into town on the upper mountainous area or by the coast?  We are trying to figure out if the walk from the train station in Monte Carlo is uphill or downhill to the Casino and harbor as well as what it is like to the overlook of the harbor near the Prince's Palace?  We are in Cannes Port from 7 am to 4pm that day.  We estimate if we can get off the tender by 9am we would catch the next train to Monte Carlo spend a few hours walking around then catch a 1:30 pm train back to Cannes Port.  Does this sound reasonable?  Thanks

Hi @southern reader I’ve only used bob’s limo for the one ride so far from airport to hotel so can’t speak to your question. maybe another reader here can comment?

I bet others are hoping you will report back on the experience of the excursion!

I will absolutely share any insights I learn.  Meanwhile, HappyCrafter123, would you mind sharing the NCL excursions you are considering taking?  Thanks

We bought tickets at the station. No need to buy ahead of time. Yes trains run all the time. Not sure how far apart but I think under 30 minutes. The train ride will take a little under an hour. As for the station being uphill or downhill, I really can’t remember. The city is very hilly. The walk to the palace is steep. We had gone in June and it was brutally hot.

Your plan will work. We got off early and had several hours in Monte Carlo/ Monaco to walk all over and enjoy the sights and were back in plenty of time.

I’ve heard from the transatlantic before us that to get off at Cannes if you are not on an NCL excursion can take up to 2 hrs.

for Cannes we have booked the NCL tour of Grasse and St. Paul de Vance as we like medieval walled cities.

That wasn’t the case for us, but that was 4 years ago. Signing up early for the tender tickets might be the only way.

Showing my ignorance, but when/how/where do I sign up early for tender tickets?  Thanks

Any information about the systems for acquiring Tender Tickets will be greatly appreciated as we are doing 0 NCL Excursions. I’m guessing that information will be included in the Freestyle Daily letters that others have requested for you to post, but your ship has a very similar itinerary to ours in a few weeks so I’d love the info for Santorini and any other tender ports you encounter.

Thanks!

You can book the tender tickets on the tv in your room or the smart screens dotted around the ship.

I’d suggest talking to the shore excursion team as soon as you board to find out when the tickets will be available to book.
I used the tv in my room to book my tender ticket for great stirrup cay and managed to get the first one after the excursions, haven and high tier loyalty status guests.

Thank you so much! The main thing obviously is wanting to know which ports will be tendered and when we can start putting in for those tickets down to the minute so we can get off as early as possible.

We know Santorini will be tendered and most of the other ports will be docked, but there are a few like Mykonos where it could go either way depending on the other ships. Our itinerary is Santorini, Piraeus, Mykonos, Katakolon, Corfu, Catania, Salerno, Livorno.

Check your confirmation email from NCL. Mine has an itinerary that shows whether each port is dock or tender.

Super helpful! Except, we booked through *****, and we did not receive an itinerary that looks like that in our email from them.

@jlandz09 Bummer! Maybe whoever you booked with can find out for you. I didn't even notice it in my email until someone on another site told me to check it!  It was buried on deep on page 3 of the PDF with all that other stuff no one ever reads. 🤣🤣

@jlandz09 do you have the app set up and have done your e-check-in ?  It is available at 21 days out.  Then you can print your edocs which includes a summary page like below.

@gatorchinsky we booked all NCL excursions— we had the discount off each from the PLUS which made prices comparable or sometimes better than booking with third party.

Yep. Did e-check-in. Still no dice on the e-docs. I literally checked in at 12 am EST like a psychopath so I'm not surprised that there's a slight delay between when I finished checking in and when they're ready.
