1sttimerrt Posted May 4, 2023 #1 Share Posted May 4, 2023 We will be going to the Hilton Moorea pre-cruise then back to Papaeete to embark on the cruise. Any recommendations for how to arrange all of the transport pieces?
Leejnd4 Posted May 4, 2023 #2 Share Posted May 4, 2023 (edited) Take a 30-minute ferry: https://www.terevau.pf/en/home/ It's about $13 US each way. You can take a cab from the airport to the ferry terminal in Papeete. The ferry will drop you off at Vaiare marina on Moorea, and you should be able to arrange for pick-up there through the Hilton. It's been a while for me, but as I recall, the ferry terminal is very close to where you board the ship - walking distance. So you can catch a return ferry on the afternoon of embarkation and just walk onboard. We did it the other direction: Moorea after our cruise, and the ferry terminal was right next door, so we disembarked, collected our luggage and walked to the ferry. You can buy ferry tickets in advance online. Edited May 4, 2023 by Leejnd4
EPTCB Posted May 4, 2023 #3 Share Posted May 4, 2023 Taxi or private transfer from Papeete airport to downtown ferry terminal. Kon Tiki Boutique Hotel across street from Papeete ferry terminal if need to spend the night in Papeete. Terevau (or Aramiti) ferry to Moorea: both companies operate in same terminal but one schedule may fit your schedule better than the other. Rental car in Moorea across from ferry terminal (if desire). Moorea fun. Ferry back to Papeete. Very short walk from ferry terminal to Paul Gauguin. I forgot about the Aramiti ferry. 🙂 They are a bit slower if I recall, but not by much. We did the Terevau ferry, and it was quite zippy. We also rented a car in Moorea, which gave us the opportunity to tour the island on our own, at our own pace. I'd recommend that option. It's a lovely island. Phantom_Celery Posted May 6, 2023 #6 Share Posted May 6, 2023 Have people had much luck arranging early check in with the Hilton Mo’orea? A lot of flights arrive early morning so I’d imagine this is a popular thing, but does require availability. Is it usually possible, or usually not available? FlightMedic555 Posted May 7, 2023 #7 Share Posted May 7, 2023 You can’t arrange for early check in but last June we arrived at about 11 and our room was available. They have a transit room where you can shower and change. In prior visits we just hung out at the beach. If you get there early they have some pastries and coffee set up outside of the restaurant which is no charge.

back to the islands Posted May 14, 2023 #9 Share Posted May 14, 2023 We stayed at the Moorea Hilton last month for 3 nights precruise. We hung out at the pool until our room was ready. We arrived about 10 AM and our room was ready between 2 and 3 PM. Actual checkin is at 3 PM. We got into our room a little early, but not a lot. It probably depends on how busy they are. We loved the Moorea Hilton and the snorkeling around the bungalows is very good!

You will want to go on the bus that goes counter clockwise for the Hilton. We've done it ... a great way to meet some locals. When in Rome do as the Romans do 😉
Phantom_Celery Posted May 20, 2023 #11 Share Posted May 20, 2023 Probably this is exactly what we would do normally, just for the local experience and tour. I’m not so sure how we’ll feel about it as the last leg of a 20h of travel though! Maybe on the way back to the ferry… 🤔

The two companies have different terminals in Moorea. Close but you need to know which terminal is which. Also, best to arrange with hotel for taxis which can be in short supply on that island. Also, the AVIS office can get very very crowded when the ferrys hit the dock in Moorea!
