Disembarkation for newbies (who don't drive!)

We're taking our first cruise in a week's time on P&O Iona and we're wondering about disembarkation. Neither of us drive so we'll have to head home using public transport. We haven't booked anything yet though because we're a bit anxious about missing a pre-booked coach or train if we don't get off the ship in time.

How do most people who don't drive usually go about this? Do you just get a taxi from the port back into Southampton then take your preferred method home or is there coaches from the port that we could take?

Many Thanks!

We always use Eavesway Cruise Link service. You haven't said how you are getting to the port but Eavesway offer either a return or one way service, depends on availability and whereabouts in the country you are.

They will publish information in the daily Horizon newsletter before near the end of the cruise. You have the option of taking your cases off the ship in which case you can disembark early. Or chose your preferred disembarkation time and they collect your large cases from outside your cabin the evening before and you collect them in the baggage reclaim hall at the Ocean terminal. They are set out in deck order. Or you just let them allocate your time. If you want to choose I suggest you go to reception rather than phone. There are plenty of taxis to the coach and rail stations.

If you are using Eavesway coaches or Cruise Connect coaches ( Intercruise) the buses are waiting right outside the terminal. There will be people there directing you to the correct coach. They always wait until everyone is on board before leaving.

Tbh if you don’t drive the coaches are the easiest option. Also if the terminal you are coming into changes the buses will know this and be waiting at the correct one.

Taxis directly outside terminal, costs approx £6/7 to Southampton train station! I recently left the Iona approx 8.45 a.m and was at Southampton train station at 9.30 a.m. I had an open train ticket so had flexibility with times! Hope this helps!
