Gauranteed Room - when do we get our assigned cabin?

Recommended Posts

We booked our cruise on the Caribbean Princess just a little over 2 weeks before departure and so were assigned a Guaranteed Cabin. I called our travel agent three days before leaving and Princess had evidently just assigned us to a specific cabin. Then we could put the cabin number on our luggage tags.

we have been assigned them 6 months in advance, and right at the pier..and anytime in between. If you do not have a cabin number when you get to the ship, no worries...the porters have a master list and will fill in your tags right then and there.

Go to the Princess web site and under the "Prepare For Your Cruise" tab you will find the Cruise Personalizer. All you need to do is enter your name and booking number and you will see your reservation. If a cabin has been assigned to you it will be listed there. Also, you can fill in all your immigration stuff and pre-book shore excursions while you are there.

mmmCoffee - Thanks - I have been to the Princess Web site and updated all our information the same nite we booked - I have been checking back often to see if we have a cabin number and was wondering if it would show up here. Of course being "newbies" we are hoping for the upgrade our TA asked for but we will be very comfortable in our gauranteed category as long as we aren't too far forward or aft.

Thanks Everyone - I was starting to worry but will just relax now - at least about this - now to the packing lists.....:p

Last week on the Caribbean Princess we had an inside cabin on the forward end of the Lido deck. We had always been in the middle of the ship in the past and were concerned about feeling the rolling motion. Actually, even in rough seas, we were surprised that it wasn't as bad as we had imagined. Sure, on the roughest night we could feel it, but it was more of a gentle rise and fall that sort of rocked us to sleep.

  • 3 weeks later...

Hi all - finally got our cabin assignment last nite and are told we were "upgraded" from Cat D on the Plaza deck to DD on the Emerald deck - starboard - we are concerned about moving to the bow of the ship - DH was down for the count on our last ship outing (Casino Boat) - should we accept or stay where we were - I don't consider this an "upgrade" since it's the same type of cabin. Thoughts?

Cinbol,

You will definetly feel more motion in the bow of the ship. Also if you have an outside cabin on the lower decks you may also hear the waves breaking off of the bow depending on the ships speed, wave height, + wind speed. We were on NCL Spirit and ended up in the bow on the 5th deck and experienced this problem. It can be annoying after a while. If your husband minds motion I would stay more to the center of the ship.

We have found that what works best is taking 1/2 tablet of meclizine (over the counter) each morning, including the morning before you embark and then follow up at night with more if needed. We also take Ginger capsules when needed. I haven't taken any in several cruises, though.

I usually don't take anything more than the 1/2 meclizine on the first morning, however my DH has a little more trouble and he takes it when needed. You may want to take a whole tablet on the first day, because that first night out can be a surprise! Do not wait to take it when you are really sick. If you hear an announcement that rough weather is ahead or rain is forecast, go ahead and take some.

I think you will be fine. The feeling you get when the ship rocks is similar to dropping on a roller coaster. You get this funny feeling in your stomach and then it's gone. You get use to it. Ever been on the Tower of Terror MGM?

Have a great cruise!

We sailed the Golden last year with a guarantee also and ended up with the very last two cabins on the back of the ship. Likewise the other tme we had a guarantee we ended up at the bow of the ship, it was very windy. If you're doing the Caribbean on the Golden it should be warm but there may be wind, however the itinerary is pretty port intensive so I don't think the wind will matter much. Also, you didn't state if this was a balcony room so it may not matter at all! But yes, you do feel the bumps more in the front and back of the ship. If you have a better location you can keep I'd stick with it:)

The D's on the Plaza deck are in an excellent location. Personally, I would prefer to be there than on the Emerald deck. If you haven't already, take a look a the deck plans and see what your cabin will be closest to... only you can decide if the location is good (for your needs) or not.

DH usually uses Dramamine and I got him the wrist bands recomended on this board... I am going with my original request and asking to stay on the Plaza Deck where we were mid-ship. We are under the casino's so weren't sure if this would be noisy, but the cabin on the Emerald Deck is two levels up and forward - not a balcony, but definately forward - (the first cabin after the balconies moving forward) We were offered a great deal to postpone this trip and take a different cruise after June 10 - good offer but timing won't allow it - several family weddings coming up in June and since it's for our 30th anniversary we didn't want to wait until late fall. Thanks for the advice.
