Question for recent BIE Greenwich to Bergen Passengers

The arrival time for Bergen is listed a 8:00 am, with the ship overnighting in port. Do you recall if that's a fairly accurate time? We're interested in booking Norway in a Nutshell and the train leaves at 8:29 am from Bergen station. I think it's about a 25 minute walk to the station, or probably a five minute taxi ride. Do you think it's safe to book the 8:29 am departure?

Thanks, and any comments from those who have done Norway in a Nutshell on their free day in Bergen would be appreciated.

On our May '23 BIE cruise, Greenwich to Bergen, we did arrive by 8 AM, but I wasn't aware when they opened the gang plank to allow passengers to disembark that morning (e.g., the staff need to set up the card readers, metal detector, etc.). After our cruise, we stayed a night in Bergen at the Thon Orion hotel which is very close to the cruise terminal, and it took about 10 minutes by taxi to get to the train station with traffic. It could be cutting it close if Viking staff are delayed by 10-15 minutes in opening the gang plank for some reason.

Dennis, you can often get an idea of when Viking thinks passengers will (reasonably) be able to disembark ship by looking at their shore excursions times.  On the day we arrived in Bergen, the earliest shore excursion time was 8:30 AM including the "included" excursion.

One month ago on this itinerary we were booked for the 8:30 Bergen included excursion and had to wait in the Atrium over 20 minutes to leave the ship. Be careful.

Thanks, Moonlit and Squawkman, I'll look at the possibility of taking the next train, around 9:30 am, I think, just to be safe.

Excellent idea. You have plenty of time with the later train. The only downside, Flam may be more crowded. And you do need to book ahead; NN sometimes does sell out ( only so many seats on the trains).
