Got an upgrade offer for the first time

Recommended Posts

I was excited to see an upgrade offer when I looked into my European cruise that sails next June on the Legend.  We currently have a balcony room on the fourth floor with no room across from us, but rooms on both sides.  The upgrade is to an 8th floor balcony with rooms across from it, a regular balcony on one side, and an extended balcony on the other.  The upgrade is $80 total.  The cruise is nine days with only one day at sea.

I'm leaning toward sticking with the room we have since it seems we'll have less foot traffic and we'll be getting off the ship nearly everyday, but figured I'd check in here in case someone has something I haven't considered. Thoughts?

Fourth floor is right above a busy, noisy interior deck.  The 8th floor is under loud Lido.  Pick your poison!  I'd map out exactly where the two cabins are to see what would be above/below your cabin.

The extended balcony on one side will probably limit your view, forward or aft, depending on which side it's on.  Personally, I like the lower decks, with better views, being closer to the water, and less motion.

It seems like every "upgrade" offer Carnival sends lately is just a higher deck, not a better room, which I wouldn't consider an upgrade.

Of all the decks on a ship the only one I will never book again is under the Lido deck.  Not only is there a lot of noise above you (foot traffic, dish carts, moving chairs, kitchen noise) but your hallway also becomes a tunnel under the pool deck for people who don't want to go outside and cross the pool deck to get to the buffet.  We found it to be a really noisy heavily traveled area.

The regular balconies on deck 4 of the Legend are fine and not above anything that would be bad. Back is above MDR no big deal. The midship balconies are mostly above pixels which will be super quiet at night. Nothing crazy like a nightclub right below. In OPs case I would stand pat with the balcony on deck 4.

I'm Team "stay put" for all the reasons listed. We've spent 2 weeks trapped directly under the Lido - miserable. Think you don't spend much time in your cabin now, wait til you experience sea life with a heard of elephants (that's what it sounds like) parading overhead every day, all day.

Not for us...we tend to do deck 1...quiet with cabins above . Plus..its still a quick elevator ride up to Lido

Deck one on the Spirit was awesome. There is only one caveat here---- know what is above you. A person out here was directly below a public restroom and it was flush after flush all day. Rooms 1153, 1157, 1161, 1165 are directly below the casino bathroom on the Spirit Class.

yes I was thinking about the Panorama and Radiance where deck 2 is all cabins. The spirit class has public areas on deck two. Hearing flushing all day would make me crazy!
