JeffElizabeth Posted July 16, 2023 #26 Share Posted July 16, 2023 Watch, cruise lines will buy new LNG ships and then the environmentalists will decide that isn't good enough either. The US is going after gas ovens right now. I remember when Natural Gas was seen as so much better than coal or diesel. 2

In addition to the other points you made regarding power generation on board, it's not just the manufacturing of the sailboat. Modern sailboats rely heavily on composite (petroleum-based) materials (carbon fibre, Kevlar, etc.). That leads us back down the path of oil extraction, refining, materials fabrication etc. TANSTAAFL. 🍺🥌

Right! Nuclear cruise ships are the future! That will go down well with the Europeans? I hope that HAL will get on the ball. HAL has a illustrious history. Hate to see it become a relic. Maybe, ADA will take over the European routes? Edited July 16, 2023 by HappyInVan
Doug_Nightmare Posted July 18, 2023 #30 Share Posted July 18, 2023 Thank you USN sailors for your service, from a career enlisted and civilian USN SS nuke operator and engineer 1969 - 1995. Havila MS Capella and her sister are LNG battery hybrids, not diesel. They may charge their batteries underweigh, but I have seen mention of shorebased charging infrastructure and images of the building.
