Are we too old?

My husband and I are in our 60s and looking at booking the Resilient Lady in the Med for next year but im worried that we would be deemed too old. We both enjoy sport and socialise with all ages especially our kids and partners who are in their 30s.

I've looked at videos and reviews and have been so impressed with Virgin's refreshing new approach.

We've have cruised for many years but we are now finding that most cruise lines follow the same format and are now outdated.

Any help would be appreciated .

I'm 70 and did my first cruise on Virgin in December of 2021. I was 68 and the friend who went with me was 73. I have my next cruise with them in December. We both loved Virgin and are anxiously waiting for the full 2024-2025 itineraries to open up.

I have cruised Norwegian, Princess, Celebrity and Carnival(ugh) and I really prefer the laid back feel of Virgin. I think you will be just fine.

We were wondering the same thing.  You should have no worries.  Jump on YouTube.  There are a bunch of videos from Vloggers who have videos titled “Am I too old for Virgin Voyages?”  They really alleviated our fears.  Now we are just waiting for the 2025 itineraries to come out.

We're in our 60s, and during our first VV, we called our TA from the beach club in Bimini and had her cancel all of our future bookings with Princess.

Unless you are an uptight homophobe, you will have a fabulous time. We're hooked!

This video from Tony does an excellent job of emphasizing the point that inclusivity benefits everyone. Both he and Where's Walter did an excellent job of making this point in their coverage of Virgin, and were influential in our decision to book with VV.

Shorter cruises out of Miami tend to be a little younger and a little wilder, longer cruises and cruises in the Med  a bit older, or at least that's been my experience.  The initial average age put out by VV was 43 for 2022.  I recently saw a TA who released some stats with an average age of 48, but did not specify time frame or anything about cruise types.  I was 68 on my first VV cruise and got off the ship with 3 more booked.

THe key is a bit of "young at heart," and if you aren't into partying till 2 (I wasn't), go back to your cabin and sleep.  There is plenty to do on board, the food is amazing, and the sailors are open and friendly.  And the NO KIDS is the absolute best part,

I'm older than you and loved it. Are there drunk 20 year olds? Yes-but I see that on many short cruises.

I found that both the crew and other guests were more open and accepting of anyone on VV than on many other traditional cruises. The whole spirit is do your own thing and be who you are.

The key thing is NOT to expect to have the traditional cruise experience on a Virgin cruise. Do not, I repeat, do not board the ship with the mindset that you're continually comparing how Virgin does things vs EVERYONE else. Doing so and you will put your mindset to having a bad cruise. Food,cabin,music/entertainment are all done DIFFERENTLY than every other cruiseline. If you are a cruise vacation traditionalist and expect your cruise vacation to be like how it was 20 years ago or even how it is now on other cruiselines that's not what you're going to get on a Virgin cruise.

And if you value the differences, you'll have an amazing cruise!  If you are going to be grumpy because some  people wear shorts and t-shirts to all restaurants, you're on the wrong ship.  You are welcome to dress up as much as you want and will not be out of place, but it is almost a "no rules" environment.  There are a few issues of safety and decency, but not a lot!

Virgin are aiming their cruises at the 30s-60s age range predominantly but there were people in their early 20s and someone who was 89 on my cruise recently. However, they say their cruises are for those who are 'young at heart'. As others have said, if you are looking for a traditional cruise line, Virgin isn't it. But as you have said, Virgin has a refreshing new approach and I found it easier to fit into (I'm 48) than other cruise lines as they catered better for solos, have a wide range of food styles, different entertainment rather than traditional theatre shows and overall a really nice vibe. Also service was excellent, partly due to the fact that all the crew can see any comments you write on surveys during the cruise and can react straight away to them to make sure you enjoy your cruise.

I found that I did more activities, etc. than I have done on other lines as these too are a break from the traditional e.g. no line/ballroom dancing, but a 90s boy band dance class and 80s video workout; and workshops such as a Tequila & Mezcal tasting, and one where you learn to plate food and take photos of it, etc.

Going forward I'll definitely be cruising with Virgin again, and will only be going on other lines if it's a cheap deal/has an itinerary I want to go on.

VV shows their inclusivity from the very beginning, in the design on fhe ships.  THey have a good number of solo cabins, not just a few to fill extra spaces.  They have about twice as many accessible cabins as other ships their size.  If you want to put 4 friends in what amounts to a dorm room--yeah, they have a cabin for that. The list could go on, but you get the idea.

Basically if you're young at heart and you love to cruise, you'll have an amazing time on VV. It's the most open and inviting cruise line out there where all are welcome. If you look at their updated marketing you'll notice they finally started leaning into all demographics with their imagery. People over 50 started showing up! 🤣  We are 57, have sailed VV twice so far, we'll be on Valiant for 8 nights for Thanksgiving and have another cruise booked in June 2024. The only negative for us, and this is just us, is the tiny pools. If they had a decent sized pool VV would be perfect for us. But it seems most people who cruise on VV don't care about the tiny pools.

If it helps, I have a food tour from Scarlet Lady on YouTube here.  https://youtu.be/pBolzKvXjMU

And an overall review of VV here. https://youtu.be/-R0imB73ajg

The full Scarlet Lady playlist is here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL8wFV2tZMxXq3Lbmd6VbXJdMNQEzc8SqH

We're all anxiously awaiting the new 2024-2025 itineraries to be released supposedly today (Sept 7). The only new thing I've seen so far is the Brilliant Lady TA from Portugal to Miami in October/November 2024. It isn't for sale yet, but that's the only new thing we've heard about if it holds.
